We can all agree that a healthier future for everyone is one where scientific research represents the full array of patients and their families. But how do we get there? 

Raluca Kurz believes, and our science team agrees, that it includes increasing diversity in the field of genomics and the people included in scientific research.

"Genetics belongs to everybody."

Raluca fell in love with genetics decades before her tenure at Charles Drew University (CDU), and over the past decade, the genetic counseling profession has grown rapidly. However, the racial and ethnic makeup of genetic counselors hasn’t changed much. CDU is working to change that by expanding research opportunities for their students and creating a new Master of Science program in Genetic Counseling to help increase diversity in the field.
