"A world leader"...! We're delighted to share this wonderful write-up of our World Champagne Day stunt in partnership with Michel Roux Jr and Emily Roux. We went undercover at Emily Roux's Notting Hill restaurant, Caractére, in a bid to demonstrate English sparkling wine's ability to stand up to champagne. Having tasted, some 58% of diners said they preferred Chapel Down, with the remaining 42% saying it was at least as good. We’re delighted to share our latest press campaign released today to mark World Champagne Day! Building on the success of last year’s ‘Chapelle en Bas’ campaign, this year we’ve partnered with renowned chefs Michel and Emily Roux to tap into their French heritage and playfully challenge the perception of champagne versus English sparkling wine. Michel and Emily hosted an exclusive dining event at Emily’s restaurant, Caractère, where diners arrived thinking they were attending the launch of new cuvées, paired with a contemporary French menu. At the end of the meal, diners were asked to share their thoughts and guess the brand of sparkling wine they’d been enjoying. Michel and Emily then revealed the big surprise! We encourage you to watch the campaign video to see their reactions and hear what they thought of our wines. As a result of the event’s success, Chapel Down Kit’s Coty Blanc de Blancs has earned a place on Emily Roux’s prestigious wine list at Caractère. Michel Roux has also been a long-time supporter of Chapel Down, being the first Michelin-starred chef to feature our luxury Kit’s Coty range at his two-Michelin star restaurant, Le Gavroche, when the wines first launched in 2016. With the 2024 harvest now well underway, our Head Winemaker, Josh Donaghay-Spire , was featured on BBC Radio 4’s Farming Today this morning. During the interview, Josh shared insights into this year’s vintage conditions, the intricacies of the winemaking process, and gave well-deserved credit to the dedicated team behind this year’s harvest. Allow us to present our Wine of the Month for October: Chapel Down Grand Reserve. Only the best parcels of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier are used to make this special vintage sparkling wine, which is matured for up to five years in bottle in our cellars before being released. Tantalising notes of apple and red berries are the perfect bedfellows for a toasty hazelnut character that is the result of this extended maturation. It’s a rich, complex sparkling wine underpinned by a freshness from the acidity borne out of the cooler 2019 vintage in England. A fine balance between freshness and complexity is what makes this wine so delicious. Perfect as an aperitif, or pair with grilled fish or risotto for a decadent dinner that’ll live long in the memory.

Harvest is here. It’s a time of year in which we all come together to deliver and experience something very special: the English wine harvest. “Harvest is progressing well across our vineyards with almost all of the Bacchus now picked and Chardonnay and Pinot Noir underway,” our Head Winemaker, Josh Donaghay-Spire says. “The fruit is looking and tasting great, particularly at our vineyards on the Kent Downs. “Whilst the 2024 vintage has faced more difficult weather conditions in September, vintage conditions and grape flavours are reminiscent of the 2019 harvest which delivered some great quality traditional method sparkling wine such as the recently released Grand Reserve 2019 and Blanc de Blancs 2019.” From our grape pickers to the cellar hands who have travelled across the world to be a part of this year’s harvest and our wonderful winemaking team, we’re blown away by the passion and hard work of all involved. We can’t wait for you all to taste the fruits of this year’s vintage in your glasses.
