Last week, Cherokee Nation Entertainment’s casino property Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Oklahoma celebrated its official reopening after the property temporarily closed due to damage from an EF-3 tornado in May. Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. and Cherokee Nation Businesses CEO Chuck Garrett praised the staff for making quick decisions in action to save lives.

Upon receiving the tornado warning, the staff quickly followed the property’s severe weather plan and evacuated several hundred people to the casino storm shelter. The casino property was left with roof damage and flooding within the building, but thanks to the actions of the staff, no one was injured, and everyone was guided to safety.

“Work should not just be work. Working at Cherokee Casino is what we do to succeed, to create lives for ourselves, to build a culture. And this makes me feel like we’ve accomplished our goal, said casino shift manager Kery Grunewald.”
