As the world was different in 1952 when Gaby Aghion founded Chloé, the Egyptian-born Parisienne understood that fashion was as much about a contemporary attitude as a ready-to-wear wardrobe. She rejected stiffly formal styles, proposing a more natural femininity and encouraging women to dare. For more than a half-century, each incoming designer – whether Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, Hannah MacGibbon, Phoebe Philo, Clare Waight Keller or Natacha Ramsay-Levi – has given shape to this Chloé identity. 

Today, the Maison has entered a transformative new chapter, with creative director Gabriela Hearst furthering Chloe’s values of responsibility and accountability. We take pride in receiving B Corp certification – among the most rigorous certifications that evaluates environmental and social impact – since it speaks to both our dedication and our actions. As we mark this new stage, reinventing how we do business, we hope to inspire other organisations.

Introducing the #Chloé x Atelier Jolie capsule. 

Chloé is the inaugural collaborator of Atelier Jolie, the purpose-driven brand founded by Angelina Jolie. The collection spotlights authentic women-to-women connections and honours both brands’ respective commitments to improving social and environmental impact.
 
Combining Chloé’s feminine signatures and exacting craftsmanship with Angelina Jolie’s decisive taste for refined minimalism, the collection is inspired by femininity in all its guises. Several designs reference treasured items that Angelina has had in her wardrobe for decades.

At least 70% of the collection is made from lower-impact materials – a higher percentage than any previous collection from Maison Chloé. Over half of the pieces are manufactured by Fair Trade-certified companies and social enterprises such as Madagascar-based Akanjo, which is committed to training and promoting craftsmanship, as well as La Fabrique Nomade – a Paris-based programme that promotes professional inclusion for refugee and migrant artisans in France.

Chloé marks the dawn of the Lunar New Year with an exclusive capsule collection.
 
The Chloé Lunar New Year capsule celebrates the year of the dragon and is inspired by the magnolia flower – a symbol of purity, nobility and femininity. Spanning ready-to-wear, bags, accessories and small leather goods, this joyful collection features magnolia flower motifs in delicate embroideries and prints, the capsule’s sunrise colours meanwhile represent the dawn of a new season and the blossoming of fresh creative ideas.
 
As is the case with every Chloé collection, reducing the Maison’s carbon footprint and prioritising materials that enable this goal are of highest priority, without compromising on design and desirability. For instance, timeless denim pieces – cut from exclusive Chloé ‘vintage’ wash denim composed of 80% recycled cotton and 20% linen – are lasered with subtle magnolia motifs with a painterly effect.
 
Accessories including the Woody small basket bag are adorned with Magnolia petals in pastel coloured leather, and are handwoven by our longstanding partners Mifuko - Work of hands and hearts in Kenya – a World Fair Trade Organisation-certified social enterprise.

#Chloé wishes you every happiness for the year ahead.

On Friday 15 December 2023, #Chloé’s Responsible Sourcing and Compliance Director Christophe Bocquet spoke at the second edition of the Les De(ux) Mains du Luxe event organised by Comité Colbert. 
 
Entitled ‘By the way, do you know how your T-shirt is made?’, the conference retraced the production journey of a t-shirt to assess the options for reducing this wardrobe staple’s environmental impact, using Chloé’s sustainability practices as an example.
 
Les De(ux) Mains du Luxe took place between Thursday 14 and Sunday 17 December and is just one of several events Comité Colbert organises to facilitate their objective of passing on French know-how and luxury to future generations. Chloé was one of 40 Maisons invited to participate and share their knowledge with students through workshops and symposiums. Dozens of schools attended during the week, while the weekend was reserved for the public and families.
 
Established in 1954, Comité Colbert is dedicated to uniting Maisons of French savoir-faire from haute couture and jewellery to restaurants and hotels. Chloé has been a proud member of Comité Colbert since 2007.

Welcome to the #Chloé pop-up at the Shinsegae Department Store Centum City, Busan, South Korea, which opened its doors at the beginning of December.

The concept for this ephemeral boutique explores notions of tailoring and comprises a geometric enclosure formed from folds and incisions. A singular material approach consisting of warm nude mesh stretched over a lightweight frame reinforces the sculptural quality of the architecture. The varying degrees of transparency reveal and conceal the product, inviting clients to discover more of the product offer. This design makes its debut in Korea for Lotte Tower pop-up in Seoul, and subsequently travels to the current location in Busan.

The Chloé Shinsegae Centum City pop-up is live until 17 December 2023.

Shine in Chloé Festive this party season.

For the #Chloé Autumn-Winter 1983-84 collection, Karl Lagerfeld collaborated with master embroiderer Maison Hurel to create strass beaded arrow adornments that shimmered with every move. Forty years later, the Chloé Festive collection pays homage to these looks and other treasures in the Chloé Archive, with arrow motifs in facetted mirrors and tubular beads darting across ready-to-wear, bags, shoes and accessories for an illuminating party season wardrobe.

Earlier this year, several of Karl Lagerfeld’s most iconic creations for #Chloé were included in the landmark retrospective ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’ at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York, which opened with the Met Gala on Monday 1 May and closed on 16 July 2023.

To commemorate this moving tribute to Karl Lagerfeld, who spent a total of 25 years working at Chloé between 1963 and 1997, we staged our own exhibition. Three original Karl Lagerfeld for Chloé designs were displayed alongside three reinterpretations of archival Chloé gowns by Karl Lagerfeld, which were worn by the Maison’s guests to the Met Gala.

The contemporary designs drew inspiration from the likes of the iconic ‘Angor’ and ‘Brise’ dresses Karl Lagerfeld created in the 1980s. “It’s a fast-flowing collection,” Lagerfeld said of the Autumn-Winter 1983-84 show at the time. “The shower is meant to send chills up the spine while turning the back on fear. I’ve had enough of regular embellishments. In our daily lives, what is truly worth diamonds? Running water.”

The Chloé by Karl Lagerfeld exhibition launched in France in June and toured a total of 10 locations worldwide including China, Japan, Taiwan before culminating in the Middle East in December – each store had its own vernissage. The preorders of the festive collection, itself inspired by the Chloé archives under Karl Lagerfeld, were available exclusively in the boutique, and guests were gifted a catalogue created for this Karl Lagerfeld exhibition as a memento of this special experience.

This week #Chloé CEO Riccardo Bellini visited the Institut Français de la Mode (IFM) fashion school in Paris, where he spoke to students about the Maison’s sustainability initiatives. Riccardo concluded the ‘Grands Témoins’ conference series, which sees luxury fashion professionals share insights and ideas and offer advice to the industry leaders of tomorrow. He was interviewed by the Director of the IFM-Kering Sustainability Certificate, Andree-Anne Lemieux. 
“Aesthetics have always been the driver of choice,” Riccardo told the audience. “But values, and how a company displays those values, are now as important as aesthetics [for consumers].”
 
In 2021, Chloé was awarded B-corp certification – one of the most demanding certifications that evaluates brands’ social and environmental impact – and the ‘Grands Témoins’ conference builds on the long-lasting partnership between IFM and Chloé.

On Saint Catherine’s Day 2023, #Chloé continues its tradition of honouring the Maison’s seamstresses, patternmakers and dressmakers to celebrate this ancient holiday. Taking place every year on 25 November, Saint Catherine’s Day historically celebrates all unmarried women over the age of 25, who are given the sobriquet the 'Catherinettes' for the occasion.

Beginning in 2022, Chloé decided to continue this annual celebration while staying true to our commitment to developing a comprehensive Diversity and Inclusion policy that accurately represents the world we live in. From now on, Chloé commemorates Saint Catherine’s Day with a personal twist by dedicating the holiday to all our in-house craftspeople.

On 23 November, the Chloé Archive opened its doors to employees for special guided tours so they could immerse themselves in the Maison's history and iconic designs from across its 70+ year history. The Head of the Chloé Archives Conservation Department Catherine Lebrun who has been with the Maison for 23 years, shared the stories of members of the Chloé Atelier via a podcast series "Petites Mains, Grandes Histoires" available on the Maison's intranet.

We believe highlighting the savoir-faire of our makers and the invaluable work they do is a true testament to the values of our founder Gaby Aghion – who incidentally shares the same birthplace of Alexandria, Egypt with Saint Catherine – and her forward-looking vision of femininity.
