❗❗ Announcing the Recipients of the 2023 Christie's Grant for Nazi-era Provenance Research❗❗

Christie’s is delighted to award a grant to three outstanding ‘next generation’ post-graduate researchers: Katharina Hüls-Valenti, Tamara Kohn and Aurora Wilson Dyer Gough.  

Restitution-focused research remains a vibrant and necessary endeavour for the artworld to address the losses of the Nazi-era and these three grant recipients will help to shed additional light on it by researching the following areas: the fate of Jewish art collections in Italy under the Fascist regime; the provenance of German Judaica and books given to Argentina by the Jewish Restitution Successor Organization; and the fate of so-called degenerate artworks by Edward Munch.

Christie's is delighted to announce the auction of guitars from the personal collection of music legend Mark Knopfler, the celebrated frontman of the iconic British rock band, Dire Straits. 

Comprising more than 120 guitars and amps, the collection spans the 50-year career of one of the world's most influential musicians and chronicles the diverse array of instruments that Knopfler has used to write, record and perform his extensive catalogue of compositions for Dire Straits, as well as numerous successful solo albums and film soundtracks.

The Monuments Men and Women Foundation will publish ‘The Art Front: Defense of French Collections 1939-1945,’ the first English translation of Rose Valland’s wartime memoir, ‘Le front de l’art (1961).’ The personal account details Ms. Valland’s courageous war-time contribution in art espionage at Paris’s Jeu de Paume Museum and is anticipated to release in the Fall of 2024.
