Cirba Solutions’ location spotlights: Lancaster, Ohio

Located in central Ohio, the Lancaster site was the first DOE funded lithium-ion battery recycling facility in the United States.  Cirba Solutions also handles the processing of NiMH, NiCad and more battery materials. 

As the lithium-ion battery market is expected to grow exponentially over the next decade, the Lancaster facility will play a crucial role in supporting the demand for need for domestic battery-grade metal salts. The facility is undergoing a $200+ million expansion to an advanced hydrometallurgical which will increase the availability of sustainability and domestically sourced and manufactured materials to expand the battery supply chain.

While mining provides an initial source for critical battery materials, battery recycling ensures used materials do not go back into the ground and supports the most efficient option for putting that material back into the supply chain. In addition, recycling has a significant impact on CO2 emissions.

Recycling batteries contributes to the: 
-Reduction of 7 tons of CO2 per tonne of nickel produced
-Reduction of 4 tons of CO2 per tonne of cobalt produced
-Reduction in CO2 tonne of lithium produced by 40%
