"You can say many things about Rome – that it's an open-air museum that transpires history and tradition."

Muralist UNO transformed a blank ceiling at our Rome Isola Tiberina hotel into a technicolour masterpiece, where curious eyes can look up to see a sequence of patterns, shapes and colours. Known for his vibrant pieces across the walls and ceilings of Italy, Germany, the US and beyond, his art welcomes citizens as they enter the hotel and takes them on a kaleidoscopic journey as they walk through the space. For our latest Artist Files, we went to Rome and chatted with him about his creative process, the themes across the mural and what makes the city the cultural epicentre of Italy.

"As a guest, I believe it's especially worthwhile looking up," says citizenM Art Curator Floor Haverkamp. "It's covered in 80 different colours, as well as tons of fun city highlights to discover on this mural. I invite you to look out for these hidden references to the city, from the number 753, the most familiar date given for the foundation of Rome to the red and yellow colours of the city throughout."
