Our East India Tasar Afforestation Project has been validated! 🎉🏆🌳 We're proud to announce that our East India Tasar Afforestation Project has recently been validated by Earthood . This milestone was a key step in ensuring that our project meets the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) with Verra , one of the most widely recognized standards in the voluntary carbon market (VCM). As of last month, we are now one step closer to complete registration with Verra. Why is this important? Validation in the VCM involves a rigorous review process to confirm that projects meet specific criteria for climate impact, transparency, and integrity. Achieving validation strengthens the credibility of our Tasar Afforestation Project and reassures potential clients that they are investing in certified, high-quality climate projects. Thank you to our dedicated team and trusted local partner Cognisphere Solutions Limited for reaching this important stage. “We were thinking that we will start in the next two years but now we think we will start before the assumed time. I’m eager to have training on it so that we can rear silkworms on our newly planted trees.” The news that our Head of Project Development, Nirmal Beura, brought back from his trip to the East India Tasar Afforestation project was thrilling. Sunita Devi, one of the initiative workers on the ground in the village of Baldega, in Jharkhand, India, shared with him unexpected and exciting developments that stand as a strong proof of concept. “We didn’t think that the cocoon would be formed on its own, we are very happy. We have not invested anything, still we are experiencing the demonstration of cocoon farming,” she says. She’s speaking about the plantations of Arjuna trees that she and an initiative consisting mainly of women have laboured to plant and rear over the past two years. These trees are perfect for raising silkworms, and the health and growth of these young trees have attracted naturally occurring silkworms to nestle into their branches years before they were expected. This means that soon, many women in this project will benefit from trainings and economic empowerment related to the silk value chain.
