In addition, the company offers public taxi and charter bus, management of taxi booking, building inspection, technology, and terminal services; and operates workshops for repairing, servicing, and general maintenance of motor vehicles. Further, it provides insurance broking, risk management, claims management, and related services; medical escort services; charge card facilities; and accident and other repair and maintenance services. As of March 30, 2022, the company operated a fleet of 35,000 buses, taxis, and rental vehicles. It also operates in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, China, New Zealand, and Malaysia. It has been an eventful first half of the year for us in the United Kingdom (UK). We begin the year by announcing our acquisition of CMAC Group, a leading UK-based ground transport management specialist, enhancing our B-2-B mobility services in the region. Our subsidiary, Metroline Ltd has also been awarded contracts to operate four public bus franchises in Greater Manchester, further expanding our footprint across the UK.
 
The UK remains a key market for the Group as we continue to build on our public transport, taxi and private-hire, and other private transport services in the region. As we move into the second half of 2024, we remain committed to strengthening our core businesses, growing our capabilities, and pursuing steady growth while ensuring every journey is safe, reliable, and sustainable for everyone.

The role of a Bus Captain is not often associated with women, but for Shi Ailing, our latest feature in the People of CDG series and a dedicated female Bus Captain, norms are meant to be challenged!

Ailing's journey with SBS Transit Ltd began in 2018, but her experience behind the wheel spans an impressive 26 years, starting back in China. Driven by the need to craft a better future for her family, she embraced the driver's seat early in life. When the opportunity to become a Bus Captain overseas came knocking, she took a leap of faith and moved to Singapore.

The beginning was hardly smooth, with Ailing facing initial resistance from her family on her decision to relocate to Singapore. Yet her determination won them over. This year marks her 13th year navigating the city’s roads, and together with her husband, who is also a Bus Captain, Ailing has built a balanced and stable life here with their child.

At work, Ailing thrives in an environment where camaraderie is strong and encouragement flows freely. Among her colleagues, she finds not just peers but allies, each spurring the other to strive for service excellence.

Although women are still considered a minority in this vocation, Ailing views the increasing presence of women not merely as progress but as a reflection of changing times. To her, being a Bus Captain is more than just a job—it’s a signal that the society is ready for women to take up roles that are traditionally meant for males.

“It’s about breaking free from stereotypes and proving that women can lead, drive, and succeed like anyone else,” Ailing said with determination.

Our operation in Australia further expanded with the commencement of Red Bus CDC NSW’s operation on the Central Coast and surrounding areas in New South Wales.
 
Awarded by the New South Wales Government in July last year, the Outer Metropolitan Bus Services Contract for Region 7 (OMBSC7) started on July 6 2024 and will span eight years.
 
The Shore Family, long-standing operators of the renowned Red Bus Services, have also announced the sale of their Central Coast bus company to CDC NSW, a subsidiary of ComfortDelGro Corporation Australia (CDC). In line with this, Red Bus CDC NSW is now wholly owned by CDC NSW.
 
Red Bus Services has proudly provided reliable transportation services to The Entrance, Gosford, Wyong, and surrounding areas for more than 8 decades
 
Combining the heritage of the well-known Red Bus Services with the expertise of CDC NSW, passengers can expect the same familiar buses and drivers on their journeys. The Red Bus brand will still be seen on all buses as part of the new Red Bus CDC NSW brand established for the contract.
 
CDC NSW is excited to continue the heritage connecting people, places and communities in the Central Coast and surrounding areas.
 
This contract will further expand CDC NSW's operations, who now employ over 2,500 people in New South Wales.
