E-commerce trends: The shift toward composable commerce and platform modernization

commercetools GmbH released a comprehensive study titled 'State of eCommerce', which reveals a significant shift towards more flexible and scalable e-commerce platforms. The study highlights that 14% of businesses are satisfied with their current e-commerce platforms, while 90% of those that have migrated to more flexible platforms reported increased sales and revenue, with 30% experiencing growth of 30% or more. Additionally, 41% of brands and retailers plan to upgrade their platforms to enhance customer experiences and compete with industry leaders like Amazon and Walmart. The study also indicates that 77% of companies plan to increase their social media channel usage, while 62% are already leveraging AI and another 32% plan to implement it. Companies that migrated to modern platforms reported significant improvements in site performance and customization capabilities.
