The News-Times is a daily newspaper based in Danbury, Connecticut, United States. It is owned and operated by the Hearst Corporation. The paper covers Danbury and portions of Litchfield County, providing local, state, and national news coverage.

The Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) is the leading force in Career Technical Education (CTE) in the State of Connecticut. CTECS currently operates 17 diploma-granting technical high schools, one technical education center and two aviation maintenance programs. As the largest high school system in Connecticut, CTECS serves approximately 11,000 full-time high school students in 31 occupational careers within 11 career clusters as defined by the National Association of Career Technical Education Consortium. In addition, CTECS serves adult day students in a variety of high-demand fields and aviation. 

Our curriculum is different from that of a traditional high school system. All CTECS academic and CTE programs are structured to deliver rigorous, relevant and result-driven curricula, which integrate 21st-century employability skills required by business and industry. The district also provides curricular and co-curricular programs to augment learning including college-credited courses, AP courses, interscholastic athletics and SkillsUSA. 

We pride ourselves on keeping up with the latest in industry trends and outfitting our classrooms with state-of-the-art technology and equipment to create authentic environments that will prepare students for future careers. Connecticut Technical Education and Career System

United Illuminating and the Utility Workers Union of America (#UWUA) have teamed up to launch the Union Scholars Program, a new 10-week internship program for high school seniors to receive training in electric utility lineworking.

Five incoming seniors from Eli Whitney Technical High School and four from Bullard-Havens Technical High School have already started their training with the Overhead Line School and Underground Line School apprentices, where they'll connect with local line crews for operations and maintenance work within their own communities!

CTECS students demonstrated excellence and brought home medals and honors at the annual SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference #NLSC23 held in Atlanta last week.

SkillsUSA students from CTECS worked against the clock, proving their expertise in occupations such as #Electronics, Computer-Aided Drafting #CAD, #PrecisionMachining, #MedicalAssisting and #CulinaryArts. #Leadership contestants also demonstrated their skills, including extemporaneous speaking and conducting meetings using parliamentary procedure.

CTECS had 26 students place in the top 10, and 12 students place in the top 20! Top student winners received gold🥇, silver🥈 and bronze🥉 medallions. Many also received prizes such as tools of their trade and scholarships to further their careers and education.

🏆 A special shoutout to Oliver Wolcott Technical High School's Benjamin Batchelder, who placed first in Electrical Construction Wiring! He was also awarded $2,000 in tools and prizes that were donated by the national event sponsors. 

This is the second time in six years an Oliver Wolcott Technical High School student has won the national #Electrical Competition.

Proud to celebrate the award of 25 #ZeroEmission electric school buses with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), White House Council on Environmental Quality Chair Brenda Mallory, Congresswoman Jahana Hayes, and CT DEEP Commissioner Katie Dykes. 👏

Thirteen CTECS schools will receive these #electric buses which will be used exclusively for daily, off-campus trade learning and athletic activities. ⚡️

A group of juniors from the #plumbing program at Henry Abbott Technical High School have spent the past two months working on the new homes being built by Housatonic #HabitatforHumanity in New Preston.

Jim Roberts, head of the #PlumbingandHeating department at Henry Abbott Tech, said the students tried to be on the site every day, working in three-hour work shifts. In addition to installing plumbing and water piping, Roberts said, the students learned codes for plumbing work.
 
“Our main objective is to have the students do the work that’s hands-on,” he said. “It’s preparing them for the #workforce.”

Harvard H. Ellis Technical High School #Electronics Technology students recently took a trip to Walt Disney World in Florida for a behind-the-scenes job shadowing experience!

Not only did they get to explore the technology behind some of the most popular rides at the park like the Tower of Terror, Slink Dog Dash and Rocking Roller Coaster, but they also took part in a workshop that explored the physics of roller-coaster technology, and got a first-hand look at some of the prototypes created by the Disney engineers who explained how they develop their rides.
