International ride-hailing apps like Bolt are at risk of local incidents turning into global protests. 📲

What’s worse is that any trending topic, especially calls for a boycott, is often exploited by #bots and other fake profiles. 🤖

This is exactly what happened with #BoycottBolt: Cyabra has uncovered 20% fake profiles on X (Twitter), pushing negative content against the company, as well as completely irrelevant posts that caused further damage. 📈

Could Bolt contain this crisis before it causes major harm to its #reputation? 🤔

Disinformation poses a threat to various groups, including brands, executives, and governments on #socialmedia. 

Recognizing and preventing potential attacks before they occur is crucial in preventing harm.

Between August and September 2023, there was a massive surge in #phishing scams using QR codes. 

Scammers were found to be redirecting #socialmedia users to fake pages, then stealing credentials, and installing malware.20,000 attacks were found in just two weeks - a 587% increase!

One may wonder: how does it work? Bad actors, who are always looking for new ways to carry out social engineering attacks, use “multiple obfuscation layers” to customize attacks based on the user's device, browser, and more.

This form of attack initially began on YouTube and moved across multiple platforms. But it can be on any platform, any computer, and happen to any user!

#BoycottRipCurl exploded on social media during the past week. In just 4 days, the use of the hashtag increased by 424% 💣

Cyabra uncovered fake accounts that flooded conversations across X, Facebook, and Instagram. 🤖

Surprisingly, many of those fake profiles weren’t pushing agendas related to the brand itself. 🏄♂️

Instead, they were latching onto Rip Curl's trending hashtag to promote an idea that was irrelevant to the conversation. 📈

Rip Curl’s #PRcrisis illustrates a new technique in the world of #CrisisManagement. 

This is a warning sign: brands and companies are no longer safe from #disinformation. ⚠️

Cyabra uncovered a fake campaign and came across three of the top information spreaders. 

While they may look real, two of these were created to disrupt the narrative, and could potentially harm brands, companies, or people. Upon first glance, would you guess these are real humans, or #maliciousactors aiming to sway the conversation with both #fakenews and #disinformation?

Some tips to spot fake accounts are excessive posting frequency, round-the-clock activity, hashtag overload, and sudden bursts of content after a year-long inactivity.

Impersonations never appear out of thin air. They’re always part of a bigger strategy. 💣

When the Silicon Valley Bank collapsed, banks in the US and around the world felt and continue to feel the #reputation fallout.

Negative sentiment and PR on #socialmedia, amplified by influential figures such as Lindi Li, led to an astounding 165% drop in FRB's sentiment -causing the bank to reach the verge of bankruptcy.

Hashtags like #Bankcollapse and #Bankingcrisis fueled fears, leading people to pull money from their accounts as they were frightened for their personal financial safety. Additionally, rating agencies expressed low confidence in FRB, negatively impacting stocks.
