The next piece in the puzzle. 

The first ASD Tug 1810 has been launched at Damen Shipyards Changde in China. 

With its compact hull form, the ASD Tug 1810 is the ideal solution for today’s port paradox. 

As seagoing vessels get ever larger, tugs need to be increasingly compact with more power – with no compromise in safety and sustainability. 

With up to 30 tonnes of bollard pull, exceptional manoeuvrability and just 18 metres in length, the ASD Tug 1810 meets the challenge head on.

Pushing the boundaries of ocean exploration! 
The series OceanXplorers will premier on 18 August on the National Geographic channel, streaming on Disney+ and Hulu. 

The show charts the adventures of the OceanXplorer research vessel. 
We’re proud of our role in this exciting story. 

Damen Shiprepair was the contracted party for the owner and his team, in the conversion of the platform supply vessel Volstad Surveyor, transforming her into the OceanXplorer and preparing her for her work undertaking groundbreaking scientific research in our oceans and bringing the results to the world – in real time.

Happy Birthday Sparky! 

The Port of Auckland recently celebrated the second anniversary of their vessel Sparky, the fully electric RSD-E Tug 2513. 

Since her arrival in New Zealand, Sparky has assisted over 1,400 ship moves – at half the operational cost of a comparable conventional vessel and with a saving of 465 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year. 

The emissions free tug provides up to 70 tonnes of bollard pull and can carry out up to four towing operations before recharging in just two hours.

Welcome to the family! 

We are proud to be building the first two Damen vessels to enter the fleet of the Sri Lanka Shipping Company Limited.

The ASD Tugs 2312 have recently been launched ahead of schedule at Damen Song Cam Shipyard in Vietnam. 

The vessels, named Aquarius and Capricorn, are built to a modern design featuring digital connectivity, fuel efficiency and low emissions performance. 

Once completed they will enter into service, carrying out operations in ports in South-East Asia.

Taking charge of the future. 

Volta 1, Europe’s first fully electric tug, has successfully completed her sea trials in Vietnam. The RSD-E Tug 2513 is being built at Damen Song Cam Shipyard for the Port of Antwerp-Bruges. 

During the next stages of the project, we will provide training to the tug’s crew. They will learn all they need to operate the new vessel, including charging procedures. 

Volta 1 is planned to be delivered at the end of this year. She is part of an order for six, environmentally focused tugs that will provide a significant sustainability boost to the Port’s operations.

Dunkirk’s icon in the dock! 

We’re happy to welcome Communauté urbaine de Dunkerque's elegant Duchess Anne at our Dunkirk yard for a 5-month docking. 

This graceful lady is a symbol of the city and the largest museum sailing ship in France. During her docking, our team will be busy with the removal of 300 tons of concrete ballast, steelworks and a full sandblasting and repainting. 

This comprehensive renovation program is scheduled for completion in time for Tall Ships Race 2025, which will take place in Dunkirk next summer.

Making an impression. 

Thijs van Weelden can remember well his first visit to Damen. He was just 7 years old when his father Jan, who has worked at the company since 1990, took him along. It made a big impression on him and he returned to Damen aged 14 to carry out an internship in IT support. 

In turn, Thijs also made a good impression – when he entered the world of work, he received an invitation to come back to Damen on a permanent basis. It came as no surprise to Jan: “I could see it coming. I could see a Damen man in Thijs."

Commission complete! 
The Pakistan Navy (PN) has welcomed its latest vessel into active service at the Port of Constanta. The vessel is an Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) built at Damen Shipyards Galati and named PNS Hunain. 

The Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf was in attendance as chief guest, together with the Chief of Defence Staff of Romania General Gheorghita Vlad and Chief of the Romanian Navy Vice Admiral Mihai Panait as guests of honour. Admiral Ashraf spoke of Damen’s ‘exceptional professionalism and dedication’ while discussing the prospects of our working together again the in the future. 

PNS Hunain will further the evolve the PN’s presence and perpetual operational readiness in the Indian Ocean.
