Deep Sky announced our $75M CAD Series A raise this morning at a press conference in Quebec!

Today, alongside Pierre Fitzgibbon and Benoît Charette, we announced a $75M Series A funding round, co-led by Brightspark Ventures and Whitecap Venture Partners, with major participation from Investissement Québec ($25M), OMERS Ventures and BDC Climate Fund.

The fresh capital will be used to begin planning and construction of our first commercial facility; grow the team; build software for selling carbon credits; and fund our Alpha research facility, the world's first carbon removal research center.

And, we announced the addition of world class board members Elkland Capital CEO Sam Duboc and TC Energy EVP Annesley Wallace. Let's get to work!

Yesterday Deep Sky was in Val-Des-Sources, Quebec to visit our partner Exterra Carbon Solutions, who are using rocks from mine tailings to permanently lock away CO2 

We brought the team from Airhive - a UK-based carbon removals company building reactors to capture CO2 from the air, also using rocks

As a technology agnostic project developer, one of our superpowers is our convening power - bringing together different technologies into projects that are complimentary and help each other shine!

Big thanks to our Corporate Dev Advisor Ron Hirson for representing Deep Sky at CDR San Francisco at Swissnex in San Francisco last week, and delivering a sobering reminder of the urgent race to avert climate catastrophe.

In my latest Forbes article, "The Race is On: 5 Steps to Rapidly Develop Carbon Removal Technology", I reflect on and describe ways to accelerate this crucial lever in addressing the climate crisis.

I was inspired last week by Heirloom's commercial plant launch and the speed they were able to take technology from the lab to commercial scale. 

Following the lead of Tesla and SpaceX, I offer five steps carbon removal innovators can take to accelerate their deployment:

1. Revisit the requirements
2. Eliminate non-essential components
3. Simplify and optimize
4. Increase implementation speed
5. Automate when ready
