A small tool is making a big impact for service technicians! Norway-based service technician Tor Vidar Rørmark (pictured) and his team realised that installing the washing collar on the VMS™ milking robot was tricky. So, they decided to find a solution! After several months of trial and error, the screwdriver was replaced with a simple but highly effective plastic tube. “The plastic tube made the job much easier and, importantly, saved us time,” says Tor Vidar. The plastic tube solution has now been replaced with a stainless T-pipe that we already had in our range—an upgrade that offers greater durability and reduces plastic waste. "It was a perfect fit for this tool," says Ian Vila, Product Specialist. Now, DeLaval plans to roll out this time-saving tool to service technicians. Being in the field helps service technicians generate great ideas, which we always encourage, as innovation and development are central to DeLaval's success. Günter Schlaiss, Product Area Manager, On-Farm Services says: "Thanks to Tor Vidar's initiative, all DeLaval service technicians will soon be able to fit the wash collar quickly and easily. ”There are many career development opportunities” Jana Höppner, Manager of Facility & Maintenance Services, was seeking a new challenge. This led her to join DeLaval in 2017, where site management is a key focus of her daily work. "I had never heard of DeLaval before a colleague approached me about the job vacancy. I did some research and found both the company and the offered job interesting, where I would get the chance to manage a team of people, which made me change jobs,” she says. A workday for Jana is never the same – which is something she enjoys. Jana and her team ensure a smooth and safe running of the Gallin site. Key responsibilities include health and safety, regulatory compliance, risk and environmental management, contract management, as well as maintenance and repair. “I appreciate the opportunities we have to expand our knowledge and learn new skills here at DeLaval. One of the most rewarding courses I have attended was the Advanced Leadership Program to improve my leadership skills. During that training that was held digitally only, I got to meet colleagues from across the globe and learn new tricks and share experiences," Jana says. Throughout her time in the company, Jana has gained a lot of new experiences and skills. “One of the key takeaways from my time in the company is that there is a healthy and positive culture here. We have an open door policy where all employees can feel safe to ask anyone for help or advice. This policy is something that I have experienced myself in a very positive way and it gave me a good start on my career in DeLaval. This is not something you see everywhere, so I appreciate it a lot. Also, the room for development and many career opportunities in the company. What a week the North American team had at the World Dairy Expo (WDE) 2024 in Madison, Wisconsin. This year, the event—a highlight of the Americas’ dairy calendar—which ran from October 1-4, was all about celebrating ‘The Golden Age’. It did that by really showcasing cutting-edge technology. One great, recently launched example of a new technology is the Milk Sustainability Center (MSC), a joint partnership between John Deere and DeLaval. This year, the Knowledge Nook sessions at WDE shone a spotlight on how MSC aims to optimise nutrient use efficiency (NUE) and reduce CO2 emissions. Flew into Sweden for an incredible day with Paul Lofgren , CEO of DeLaval , and two key technology leaders, Carl Oskar Paulrud and Robert Olsson . 🌍🐄 We spent the day at their operational dairy farm located at the Delaval headquarters in Tumba, Sweden. The team's passion and forward-thinking approach left a strong impression, and I gained valuable insights into what AI technology they are developing for the future. We covered some exciting areas, including their Dairy Data Warehouse, innovative behavior analysis tools, and their upcoming Milk Sustainability Center collaboration with John Deere. One highlight of the visit was touring the historical inventions of founder Gustaf De Laval. Seeing the 1894 mechanical milking arm—remarkably similar to modern milking robots—was a real treat! Today John Deere and DeLaval launch the Milk Sustainability Center, an innovative digital ecosystem designed to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of dairy farming operations. With the dairy industry facing evolving sustainability standards and stricter regulations, the Milk Sustainability Center offers a solution by integrating data on crop and animal performance into one unified platform. Developed through a joint effort initiated in September 2023, the Milk Sustainability Center integrates data on crop and animal performance into a unified tool, aiming to empower farmers to optimise their operations, reduce environmental impact, and meet the growing demands for sustainable practices in dairy farming. Dairy farmers can use the Milk Sustainability Center to monitor NUE (nutrient use efficiency) and CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent) across their farm, herd, and fields. It collects animal and crop data, providing insights to help farmers manage nutrient utilisation effectively and reduce the need for manual data input. Farmers can also invite their consultants, dealers, vets and other partners to access the platform. A cloud-based solution, it is accessible on both desktop and mobile devices and can be used by dairy farmers regardless of their farm machinery brands, milking equipment brands, or herd management software. It is now available as a free version to a select number of dairy farmers in the USA, Netherlands, and Germany, with plans to expand to other European countries soon.
