Stunning landscapes on our most recent summer crop survey trip in regional NSW & Victoria. We collect (and obsess over) ground truth data because it is crucial to delivering the suite of products in DAS’ Grain Intelligence offering - in this case, our summer grain intelligence product. 

Here are some highlights from the trip: 
~ 443 total cropping points collected
~ 162 rice paddocks found, 160 were correctly identified by us in our estimates - putting our overall rice accuracy at 98.8%
~ 1520 km driven over two (sweltering hot) days
~ A lot of wildlife on this trip, but not a single kangaroo despite all of the signs

#AustralianSummerCrops 🌾  With model overall accuracy at 98.7%, we have delivered our first summer crop estimates of the year to DAS clients. There is good news for companies tracking #sorghum, #rice, #corn and #cotton, with per crop accuracy greater than 91% for these crop types. As usual, quality control is key - we have groundtruthing to conduct in some areas of Victoria and central Queensland.

And an important note if you are actively tracking rice production, with global stocks low and official Australian forecasts showing an increase of 40% in production this year, we have some news on this that will likely surprise many... Intrigued?
