Reflecting on a productive week at #CES2024 in Las Vegas for ECARX 🪞

Day 2 of CES and I have gathered some thoughts and reflections so far from the show itself. Having been coming to CES for a number of years now, it is always interesting to see how the show has changed each year, what the themes of the show are, and which companies have gone all out on their presence and which ones are not here at all.

It is clear even from the entrance hall advertising that Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) is front and centre at this year’s show. Lots of Tier 1 and Tier 2 companies are talking about their role in that movement in the automotive industry and many OEMs are using CES as a platform to talk about their approach to SDVs.

We have seen two major OEMs announce ChatGPT integrations in their vehicles here and ECARX sees the integration of Large Language Modules as something that is going to be increasingly a requirement for automakers and their customers. It is interesting to note that some of these integrations are being rolled out to cars that are already built via Software Over the Air (SOTA) updates.

Whilst this is excellent news for customers of recently built cars, it also highlights the issue for SOTA that OEMs and their customers are increasingly realising - computing horsepower is now as important as mechanical horsepower. At ECARX we have been showing our flagship digital cockpit Makalu platform, which has significant processing power headroom to allow for years of updates after production. 

We have been working on true software defined vehicles with many of our OEM customers for many years and the automotive industry's attention is now firmly focused on delivering customer SDVs in many forms.
