FAQ From Wind Technicians: Can we survive a fire with our rope based descenders, can we come home safely?! Answer: Rope based descenders are not designed for a simple and fast escape and descent during dangerous panic-situations, ropes are not fire-proof and the descenders are too difficult to handle and too time consuming to setting up before you can start the descent and during the descent. The turbines are getting bigger by the day, this means that more technicians have to work in the nacelle at the same time and everybody wants to escape at the same time when a fire occurs, besides not fire-proof the ropes can easily get entangled and can be catastrophic, so rope based descenders are simple not fit for this purpose. Also, in this case: Rope based descenders do not bring compliance to any risk assessments and do not bring compliance to any official safety standards. All rope based descenders are designed for complicated and difficult Rescue scenarios where time is not or less important! Escape and Evacuation during dangerous panic-situations is a completely different thing, here every second counts, during the escape and during the descent.
