Fashion for Good is an international organization that aims to bring together the fashion industry to accelerate the transition to sustainable and circular fashion practices. The organization operates museums, supports innovators, and provides a platform for collaboration and education on sustainable fashion.

From cotton to spider silk and ‘leather’ alternatives made of out green waste: biomaterials entail a sheer innumerous variety of fascinatingly different materials which are combating waste and pollution 🌍✨

According to Textile Exchange, aligning with the global 1.5°C pathway necessitates a 45% reduction in raw material production by 2030. This transition hinges, in part, on the adoption of innovative materials that do not rely on virgin fossil fuels.  

Many of these cutting-edge biomaterial innovations offer more sustainable alternatives, frequently incorporating waste inputs and employing processes that are inherently more efficient in terms of water, chemicals, and energy usage.

However, with a plethora of “bio” terms (bioassembled, biosynthetic, biofabricated, etc) circulating among brands and consumers alike, it is important to approach these terms carefully and avoid blanket statements, especially as “bio” does not always mean better.

The building currently houses an expanding co-working space supporting mission-aligned creatives, makers and entrepreneurs. If you work in the sustainable fashion space and are looking for a unique location in the centre of Amsterdam, please get in touch.

The existing co-working space houses the Circular Apparel Community and serves as the headquarters of Fashion for Good’s Innovation Platform, together with mission-driven organisations such as ZDHC Roadmap to Zero Programme, Organic Cotton Accelerator and Sustainable Apparel Coalition the building is used as an office. There is space available for like-minded organisations, with the aim for more collaborations and cross-pollinating opportunities in the fashion space.

Sustainable solutions across the supply chain ✨

Out innovators Ponda Bio, Nature Coatings, and Materra join forces with manufacturers, investors, textile companies and three other materials startups to create the revolutionary capsule collection, Everloop!

The capsule consists of six collaboratively produced pieces — two jackets, two sweaters, one T-shirt and one pair of trousers — that integrate different technologies across materials, pigment and stitching. These include Ponda Bio’s Biopuff wadding, Materra’s cotton fibre, and Nature Coatings’s wood-based pigment Bioblack TX.

This collaboration between our innovators and Positive Materials, Petratex - Confecções SA, PDS Ventures and AMPHICO, Pact, Savian by BioFluff proves that it’s possible to tackle multiple sustainability issues all at once, without compromising one issue for another, and without sacrificing style or creativity in the process.

“This collaboration is a very important mechanism to showcase the fact that there are no silver bullets within the fashion supply chain. Illustrating, very tangibly, how different materials can address different issues is key. I think there’s sometimes the temptation to assume there’s that one material that solves it all. That’s just an impossible dream. Our innovator TERSUS Solutions partners up with New Balance to launch the brand’s resale platform “Reconsidered.”

This new initiative leverages the innovator's expertise in product cleaning, fulfilment, and warehousing, operating a waterless cleaning technology alongside a suite of textile reclamation solutions for apparel and footwear. 

The innovator has developed an industrial “laundry machine” that uses recycled (from industrial manufacturing) fluid CO2 as a solvent instead of water, delivering chemical-free textile cleaning targeting dry cleaners – not at-home users. Their technology reduces water consumption and the need for additional chemicals used in industrial dry-cleaning processes.

Fashion for Good is supporting the launch of a study on Next Gen sustainable material innovations in the fashion sector by Sustainabelle Advisory Services.

To underpin the study, a survey has been developed for innovators, brands, investors, suppliers and enablers in the space. Survey findings will feed directly into a free industry report to identify opportunities for accelerating the adoption of these key solutions to achieve impact. Share your insights by taking the survey, developed with the help of Madeleine Club — it will take 8-10 minutes to complete and will remain open until March 1, 2024. 

To thank you for your time and commitment, survey participants will be sent a copy of the report once finalised. Additionally, ten randomly chosen participants will receive a complimentary 1-hour consultation session with Sustainable Advisory Services & Madeleine Club.
