Dr. Allyson MacLean and her team are one of our eleven teams from across the country who are innovating to future-proof food production in Canada. Their challenge is to create and deliver a market-ready system to reliably, sustainably and competitively produce berries out of season and at scale in Canada. Dr. MacLean and her team partnered with Fieldless , a controlled-environment agtech company, to produce True North Berries, a varietal that can be grown anytime, anywhere in Canada. Key to the roots-to-shoots approach is a proprietary vertical-farm platform that is turbo-charged by the use of growth-promoting microbes and a carbon dioxide micro-capture and use device.
