PLAY is currently operating flights between Iceland and Europe on new Airbus A320 neo aircraft. In spring 2022, PLAY will start its hub-and-spoke operations and start serving the US market with destinations in North America.

PLAY receives the Icelandic satisfaction scale

PLAY has been awarded the Icelandic satisfaction scale, having been selected as the top airline in a customer satisfaction survey among Icelandic airlines. This is a significant honor for the airline, and the employees at PLAY who provide exceptional service can be proud of this achievement.

PLAY increases its reach in North America and takes off to Canada

PLAY is excited to announce the launch of daily flight ticket sales to Toronto-Hamilton Airport in Canada, with the first flight scheduled for June 22. This new route will offer connections to 15 destinations in Europe, making it PLAY's fifth destination in North America.
 
The addition of Toronto to our network is the natural next step for PLAY, as the success of our other North American destinations has exceeded expectations.

83% Load Factor in December and 800k passengers in 2022

PLAY’s load factor in December was higher than all other publicly listed airlines in Scandinavia, showing the effectiveness of the PLAY network and its commercial activity.

The load factor in December was 82.8% compared to a 79.1% load factor in November. Routes to and from London, Paris, and the Canary Islands were very popular with a load factor of around 90 percent.

PLAY expands significantly in Denmark and secures a key city in Germany

PLAY continues to expand and has now added four new destinations to its network. These include the Danish cities Aarhus, Aalborg and Billund. As well as the great business city Düsseldorf in Germany. These destinations fit perfectly with PLAY’s transatlantic route to its North American destinations.

As we look back on the past year, we are proud of the many accomplishments we have achieved. In 2022, we onboarded 200 new employees, took delivery of 4 new planes, and introduced 15 new destinations to our growing network. We could not have done it without the hard work and dedication of our employees and the support of our customers. Here's to an even better year ahead!

Yesterday was the 🌀 winter solstice 🌀 in Iceland, so we had the shortest day of the year

In Reykjavík, we had about four hours of daylight, with sunrise at 11:21am and sunset at 3:31pm. But the good news is that today we will have daylight for a few seconds longer than yesterday 🌞

And the days will continue to gradually get longer as we near the end of the year 2022 🗓️

First by only seconds, but then by minutes until the days will become as long as the nights during the spring 🌱

Then we will get closer to our magical summer nights where you can bathe in the midnight sun 🌅

And in other good news is that during this period, when the "days" are short in Iceland, you will have the best chance to see the Northern Lights 🌃 because to see them, you need dark skies 🌙

The past few days have been difficult for Iceland's airline industry due to adverse weather conditions that have disrupted the flight schedules of all airlines operating in the country. This has occurred during one of the busiest travel periods of the year, as passengers are trying to reach their destinations to spend the holidays with loved ones.

To address the situation, we at PLAY airlines have taken the step of bringing a brand-new Airbus A320neo into service, which was stored in Denmark and was not scheduled to join our fleet until 2023. As a result, we now have a total of seven Airbus A320/321neo planes in our fleet and have also leased an additional aircraft to help get as many passengers to their destinations in time for the holidays as possible.

At PLAY, we understand the importance of travel during this time of year and are committed to doing everything we can to mitigate the impact of the weather on our passengers. We are grateful for their patience and understanding as we navigate this challenging situation. Our staff has worked tirelessly today, as they always do, to handle the increased demand with professionalism and resilience.
