Winter melon season is almost here — we are weeks away from harvest! But first, let’s go behind the scenes to see how our melons are grown. First, we plant seedlings in greenhouses to meet the melon’s specific growing conditions. Then, these seedlings are transplanted into the fields where they grow and ripen. Finally, the ripe melons are harvested and make their way to grocery store shelves. What melon are you most excited for this winter melon season?

At Fresh Del Monte, our mission extends beyond providing healthy, nutritious foods. We believe in fostering wellness, not only for our consumers but also for our team members and the communities where we operate. As part of our commitment to making health care accessible, we recently held impactful events in our growing regions. In Kenya, we hosted a free medical camp for the community where 1,595 people were seen for a variety of services, including eye-related ailments, lifestyle diseases, oral diseases, respiratory infections, joint-muscular conditions, and gastrointestinal infections. In Costa Rica, we hosted a health and wellness event to celebrate women’s contributions to our workforce and provide health services. More than 40 female team members from our pineapple division attended and received medical check-ups and screenings, and learned about self-care and empowerment through workshops. These efforts are a vital part of our Corporate Social Responsibility, ensuring that our communities and team members have access to essential health care and the tools for a healthier lifestyle. Together, we’re building a future where wellness is within reach for all.

Banana bots, equipped with AI and advanced robotics, could revolutionize how we interact with produce. They can provide real-time information about banana varieties, ripeness, and nutritional value. Plus, they can engage shoppers in interactive games and quizzes, making the shopping experience more fun and educational. As technology continues to advance, we can expect to see more innovative ways to promote fruits like bananas. Banana bots are just the beginning! Great initiative by our team in Korea!!!

Our 2023 Sustainability Report is here! This report highlights the many sustainability and community-related achievements we made as a company last year. Most notably, we achieved our SBTi-approved scope 1 and scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions goals seven years early. Our original goal was to reduce scope 1 and scope 2 emissions by 27.5% by 2030 against a 2019 baseline. Since we already met that goal, we’ve increased our reduction goal to 30% by 2030 compared to 2019. We’re incredibly proud of the entire global Fresh Del Monte team — from the fields to the ports to our offices — for their dedication to operating sustainability and their hard work that got us here.
