Recently, the hydrogen separation equipment independently developed by Beijing Sinoscience Fullcryo (hereinafter referred to as "Fullcryo") successfully passed the HAZOP safety review by the HSSE department of Malaysia's national oil company, PETRONAS. This signifies that the equipment has reached international advanced levels in terms of safety and reliability.

Fullcryo’s hydrogen separation equipment is independently developed, designed, integrated, and manufactured, strictly adhering to the ASME standards for pressure vessels in the United States and Malaysia’s DOSH (Department of Occupational Safety and Health) standards. It offers EPCC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning) turnkey services, including transportation, installation, and commissioning, ensuring smooth project implementation and efficient operation.

PETRONAS, as a leading oil and gas company in Southeast Asia, has extremely high requirements for the safety and reliability of its equipment. HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Study) is a safety review method widely used in the petrochemical industry. It examines design PID drawings and design data to identify potential accidents in each process system, analyze their causes, consequences, and control measures, and provide improvement suggestions. By passing the HAZOP safety review, the hydrogen separation equipment has eliminated deficiencies in the process design, identified risks in the process flow, and laid a solid foundation for the smooth advancement of the project.

In the context of global economic integration, the "Belt and Road" initiative has become an important platform for promoting international cooperation and common development. Fullcryo actively responds to the national call, upholding the spirit of open cooperation, and establishing strategic partnerships in Malaysia to achieve common development and mutual benefit.

A few of the dynamics I noted in my annual APAC trend watch (see a summary here: https://lnkd.in/eFY8qSUr) were on full display a the Forum in Singapore last week. 

We've talked for a while about the increasing intersection of AI and deep tech and its potential to accelerate hardware solutions to market + make sustainability technologies more accessible. I had the privilege of working with some of the region's all stars working at this intersection on a discussion around the potential for AI to impact cleantech innovation:

- Kavickumar Muruganathan who talked us through the many promising applications for Microsoft's sophisticated AI models to be leveraged in sustainability areas (check out the Microsoft AI for Good Lab: https://lnkd.in/eq4dSKpi).

- Tien Nguyen, who wins the award for the fastest-acting climate VC in Southeast Asia, at Earth Venture Capital in Vietnam, talked about the checks-and-balances he ensures when investing in an AI-enabled deep tech company. Principally, accounting for a verified reduction in GHG emissions or other measurable impact reduction from eventual implementation of the technology. 

- Shoko Suzuki brought the perspective of a deep tech investor, leading Real Tech Holdings's Singapore operation. Shoko emphasized that any truly effective climate solution needs to be purpose-built, whether hardware or software, and simple transfer of an AI platform into the climate space won't cut it. Ease of implementation, not sophistication of algorithms, gets buyers engaged. 

As highlighted in the trend watch above, APAC innovation in solar, hydrogen (production and storage) technology, and batteries saw a landmark investment  year in 2023. There was an especially exciting group of hydrogen innovators in town last week, including: 

- Tulika Raj (SunGreenH2), who is developing low-cost, high-efficiency electrodes and electrolyzers, with a significantly reduced platinum group metals profile of the products, a key element to streamlining supply chain

- Michael Gao (Beijing Sinoscience Fullcryo Technology Co., Ltd.) whose cryogenics approach has promise to resolve some of the core cost and safety challenges of hydrogen storage + transportation

- DiviGas has developed a proprietary membrane to efficiently separate hydrogen from mixed gases
