Tras estudiar Derecho y Administración de Empresas en la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Gloria Moradas Serrano comenzó su carrera profesional como asesora financiera en Deloitte. 
Fue durante esta época cuando su interés por el impacto social se hizo más fuerte, decidiendo formarse en cooperación internacional por la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid y comenzar a trabajar en el tercer sector.

Después de dos años trabajando para distintas organizaciones no gubernamentales y casi uno viviendo en Nairobi (Kenia), Gloria ha pasado a formar parte del equipo de GAWA como Junior Finance & Compliance Officer, uniendo sus dos pasiones: las finanzas y el impacto social.

Women are more likely than men to be self-employed, less likely to borrow from family and friends, and thus are in greater need of access to formal financial services.

The difference between theory and practice. 

In theory, companies related with tobacco and fizzy drinks can have high ESG scores and seem desirable for investors willing to turn focus on sustainability.

In practice, these companies sell products that can be addictive and harmful for consumers. 

However, most ESG ratings do not have much to do with actual corporate responsibility as it relates to ESG factors. The ratings can be affected by the degree to which a company’s economic value is at risk due to ESG factors and it is subject to human judgment and inconsistent access to ESG information, leading to huge variability across raters.

The problem is that giving high ESG rating to this type of companies leads to them obtaining higher flows of money from sustainability investors, which will then not be flowing towards preventing economic, human, and environmental costs of “market failures” caused by corporations.

Much is left to do in structuring these ESG ratings adequately and helping investors analysing what kind of enterprises are really focused on improving their ESG practices.
