Auto insurance rates aren't finished rising yet, but there's a light at the end of the tunnel. Jerry's VP of Insurance Operations Joshua Damico shared his predictions with Money:

💡 By mid-2024 most insurance companies should have proper pricing in place and premium costs will level off.
💡 As inflation declines and insurers see rate increase approvals start to earn in, loss ratios will decline. That's when we’ll begin entering a period of improved price stability for consumers.

We’re kicking off the new year at Jerry by releasing our 2024 State of the American Driver Report, a data-driven, first-hand account of what it’s like to own a car in the U.S. right now. Results from this national survey of more than 1,200 American drivers, across all age groups and regions of the country, reveal how the cost of car ownership is affecting their budgets, car buying outlook, preference for hybrids over EVs, and more:

🛍 More than four in 10 (42%) American drivers said they plan to buy a new or used car this year, nearly twice as many as last year (23%). 

🚗 Soaring car insurance premiums forced nearly a quarter (22%) of drivers to buy less coverage than they wanted in 2023. That included 39% of Gen Z and 32% of Millennials.

🧑‍💻 More than half (57%) of respondents said they would consider buying a car on Amazon.

💰More than half (58%) of American drivers cut spending in other areas—such as restaurant meals, clothing and groceries—because of the high cost of owning a car.

⚡️Given a choice of two otherwise identical vehicles that are priced the same, 83% of drivers said they would choose a hybrid that didn’t require plug-in charging over an EV that did.

🔌 EV shoppers are motivated most (62%) by saving money on gas.
