Fourth Power is a thermal battery energy storage company. Our technology makes renewable energy an on-demand energy source through utility-scale thermal storage. We can harness today’s wasted wind and solar production to respond to grid needs at a cost competitive with fossil fuels.

Our modular battery can provide 5 to 10 hours of storage to meet needs now and scale with renewable deployment for needs up to 100 hours and any increment in between. With the ability to provide short- and long-duration energy storage (LDES), we can start small and grow with the grid to save consumers money and ensure a clean energy future.

Our team was thrilled to take part in the Breakthrough Energy #BESummit last week. Despite an exhausting schedule, we left London energized to tackle our generation’s greatest challenge — #climatechange — by decarbonizing the grid using #thermalbatteries to store energy for long durations #LDES.
 
A particular highlight was being featured in the Summit’s Innovation Showcase. Arvin Ganesan and Christina Belsito spoke with hundreds of people — investors, corporates, policymakers, and Breakthrough Energy’s own founder, Bill Gates — about Fourth Power.

We recently shared a new addition to our Advisory Board, Philip Dion of Edison Electric Institute; we'd be remiss to not also boast about its other members. We're honored and grateful for their contributions to our company:
 
Derek Warnick is co-founder and CFO of Electric Hydrogen, a company building efficient, low-cost electrolyzers to produce green hydrogen at global scale. Previously, he held executive positions at Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Tank Utility, and Infinite Cooling. Not only does he bring expertise in scaling and deploying large-scale decarbonization technologies, but also in building and managing an a-class team.
 
Dr. Arun Majumdar is the Jay Precourt Provostial Chair Professor at Stanford University. Prior to joining Stanford, he was the Vice President for Energy at Google, where he created several energy technology initiatives and advised the company on its broader energy strategy. In 2009, he was nominated by President Obama and confirmed by the Senate to become the Founding Director of the Advanced Research Projects Agency - Energy (ARPA-E), where he served till June 2012. Between March 2011 and June 2012, Dr. Majumdar also served as the Acting Under Secretary of Energy, and a Senior Advisor to the Secretary of Energy.
 
Dr. Stephen Forrest  is the Peter A Franken Distinguished University Professor of Engineering at the University of Michigan. He is a world expert in Optoelectronics and a serial entrepreneur. A fellow of APS, IEEE and OSA and member of the National Academy of Engineering and the National Academy of Sciences, he is recognized for innovations in organic LEDs, his work on organic thin films and advances made on photodetectors for optical communications systems. 
 
Dr. Kenneth Sandhage is the Reilly Professor of Materials Engineering at Purdue University. He is a Leading Expert in High Temperature Materials, and invented the Displacive Compensation of Porosity (DCP) Process.  The Sandhage group has pioneered the development of novel shape-preserving, reaction-based processes for generating materials with tailored chemistries and macro-to-nanoscale structures for energy, environmental, transportation, defense, and medical applications. Earlier in his career, he served as a Senior Scientist at both Corning and American Superconductor 
 
Dr. Gang Chen is the Carl Richard Soderberg Professor of Power Engineering and the director of the MIT Pappalardo Micro/Nano Engineering Laboratory. A world expert in heat transfer, he has made important contributions to the understanding of heat transfer in nanostructures and exploited them to develop energy conversion, storage, and water technologies. Chen is fellows of the US National Academy of Engineering and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

As U.S. electricity usage soars, Fourth Power’s novel energy-storage system could enable wind and solar to meet demand while reining in costs. ⚡️
