GrowSari is a tech-enabled B2B platform that helps the Philippines’ over one million sari-sari stores get better service level, assortment, and access to new services,  outfitting them with both the infrastructure and tools they need to transform themselves from simple FMCG outlets to comprehensive service hubs for the nation’s grassroots communities.

GrowSari started in 2016  as an ordering platform servicing roughly sari-sari stores in three cities. Today, GrowSari powers the management, growth, and analytics infrastructure of over 50,000 stores in 100 cities actively ordering on the platform each month. In addition to providing affordable, on-demand inventory  as well as working capital loans, GrowSari’s platform also generates crucial data & insights into the operations of these stores for manufacturers and distributors to build their strategies and campaigns upon. GrowSari has also integrated multiple-microservices such as telco load, bills pay, e-commerce, wifi and other eservices, allowing store-owners to maximize their capital in one wallet and easily expand their business.

#CIIP is delighted to launch a new compilation of eight case studies developed in conjunction with the 2023 Financial Inclusion study “Financial Inclusion in Post-COVID Southeast Asia: Accelerating Impact Beyond Access”. It is a collection of stories of how financial services providers (FSPs) in Southeast Asia have gone beyond the provision of financial services to make conscious efforts to address #underserved markets. These case studies reveal how these FSPs have done so by assessing their contributions to the #financialhealth of their customers and monitoring the #impact of their services. 

This compilation is put together by the Centre for Impact Investing and Practices (CIIP) in partnership with the eight FSPs featured in this compilation: Amartha (Indonesia), BPI Direct BanKo (The Philippines), Funding Societies | Modalku Group (Southeast Asia), Growsari (The Philippines), KoinWorks (Indonesia), Noburo Wealth-Being (Thailand), TYM - TINH THUONG MICROFINANCE INSTITUTION (Vietnam), and Vui App by Nano Technologies (Vietnam). 

It is intended as an accompaniment to the 2023 Financial Inclusion study, which had contributions from 60 organisations, including industry associations and investors, 31 FSPs and over 8,500 customers across six markets in Southeast Asia (Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam). 

Each case study delves into a unique approach adopted by the FSP and showcases their efforts to address specific challenges and create lasting impact in their respective communities. From empowering MSMEs to providing specialised services for low-income women, these companies showcase the diverse strategies which can be deployed to drive financial inclusion and uplift livelihoods. 

We are grateful to the FSPs featured for their time, insights, and willingness to share their journeys, so that others may be similarly inspired.

🏪 Bazaar, the leading e-commerce, fintech, and supply chain platform in Pakistan, supports over 5 million businesses, mainly neighborhood convenience stores. Operating in over 48 towns and cities, Bazaar helps businesses procure inventory, manage bookkeeping, and access credit.

Sometimes you aim for an outcome (e.g. grow revenue 50%, hit operational profitability) and hitting it gives the team the high of achievement. The kind that you celebrate in town halls. 

And then once in a while, you come across 'accidental outcomes' like we just did at Growsari. We found out that we are the largest women-preneur platform in Philippines (and top 3 in ASEAN). This has always been core to our purpose, and while we didn't plan for it, we will celebrate this much louder in our next get together. 

Starting next Q, we will include an impact section to our balanced scorecard. Who knows, if we measure it proactively, we can dream of become the biggest supporter for women-preneurs in the region.
