We launched our new Wellness Range a few weeks ago and the first reviews are rolling in. Earlier this year, our customer research confirmed that people love the way our tea tastes. But why does our tea taste so good? 1. Biodynamic and organic farming Plants that grow in regenerative systems are less stressed. The soil is full of life and provides ample nutrients. 2. Direct from tea gardens By sourcing directly from biodynamic tea gardens, our tea is fresh. We know exactly when our teas were harvested and we never store sacks of tea for years in dusty warehouses. 3. The best quality, hand-harvested leaves Most major brands use actual tea dust in their tea bags. Consumers are so used to drinking this bitter hit, that most don't even know what real tea tastes like. We use the highest quality leaves that can fit in a tea bag. 4. Rigorous taste testing Combined, Kiran and Dave (our tea taster in chief) have over 60 years of experience in the tea industry. They know who to call for the best tasting leaves and how to perfectly balance ingredients together.

Kiran, our wonderful female founder has been growing the organic tea movement for 30 years now 😮 When she moved to the UK from India, she couldn’t find the pure, pesticide-free tea she loved back home. So, she decided to create it herself. Hampstead Tea was born out of her longing for real, organic tea. In the late 80s, Kiran bumped into Rajah Banerjee, founder of Makabari Tea Gardens in Darjeeling. "No nasties in my soil," he said. Kiran was hooked. His challenge? Spread the word about natural tea cultivation. Challenge accepted! She swapped consulting for tea leaves and got to work. First, she set about getting the gardens’ organic status – a lengthy process. But, by 1988, Makabari it was the first certified organic tea garden. The wild nature here is more than organic though. The tea bushes grow amongst ancient forests. A few years later, Makabari earned Demeter biodynamic status. Back in Kiran’s kitchen in London, she started packing organic Darjeeling tea from Makabari into bags. People doubted her – loose leaf tea? Really? But she stuck to her guns. Soon, her hand-filled packs were in shops across London. We've come a long way since then!
