On 15 November, members of our Bermuda team hosted and participated in the 24th Annual Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) Bermuda Branch Dinner at Fourways Inn, Bermuda. Senior Associate Warren Bank, FCIArb (Chair of the Branch) served as master of ceremonies, reflecting on the year’s achievements, and introducing the distinguished guest speaker, The Hon Mr Justice Nicholas Segal of the Grand Court of the Cayman Islands and Assistant Justice of the Supreme Court of Bermuda. The Rt Hon Sir Christopher Clarke, President of the Court of Appeal for Bermuda and the other members of the Court, Chief Justice Larry Mussenden and other Justices of the Supreme Court were also in attendance. A heartfelt thank you to Paralegal Christine Payne (CIArb Branch Secretary) for her extraordinary effort in organising a flawless evening enjoyed by all. This elegant event celebrated the vital role of arbitration in Bermuda, bringing together members of the judiciary, leading law firms, and arbitration professionals. We are proud to support the growth of alternative dispute resolution in Bermuda.

Luxembourg has made some exciting developments in the maritime industry. The submission of Bill of Law No. 8419 aims to modernise the county’s Maritime Law, focussing on simplifying ship registration processes and enhancing the appeal of the Luxembourg flag. This Bill builds on previous efforts from the Maritime Labour Convention, underscoring Luxembourg’s commitment to a more efficient and attractive maritime framework. This trip represented a continued collaboration between Harneys and Harneys Fiduciary , underpinning their strategic alliance as they strengthened bonds and built bridges in Brazil. James, alongside Pia, enjoyed gaining valuable insights from new and existing clients. Clients were particularly interested in discussing the implementation of the Beneficial Ownership Transparency Act in the Cayman Islands and navigating CIMA’s corporate governance and internal control standards.
