➖Aged laying hens = reduction of #eggshell quality! This leads to a lack in saleable eggs and therefore to a reduction of profitability. The main reason for the reduced quality of the eggshell is a decrease of the intestinal calcium absorption due to a lack in metabolic active #vitaminD . Our solution: #Panbonis ® which is a natural source of the bioactive form of vitamin D and is produced from leaves of Solanum glaucophyllum. Recently our colleagues Deike Kubitza and Kathrin Bühler got the chance to prepare an article for the DGS Magazin which discusses the background and presents the effects of the use of Panbonis®. ➕ In a trial which was done with laying hens starting with 76 weeks of age, Panbonis® was able to improve the laying performance while reducing the amount of non-saleable eggs in both white and brown laying hens in the trial group compared to the control group. Consequently, eggshell strength in aged laying hens is reduced. Solanum glaucophyllum (SG) produces 1,25(OH)2D3 in glycosidic form. An experiment was done to study the effects of dietary supplementation of 1,25(OH)2D3 from SG on production performance and eggshell quality in LSL-lite laying hens from 110 to 120 weeks of age. Dietary supplementation with G-1,25(OH)2D3 significantly improved egg production and external eggshell quality without negatively affecting bone strength and integrity. It indicates an improved intestinal Ca absorption and mineral metabolism in hens at the end of production. Katia Pedrosa will present insightful information about the advances in laying production! Enhancing Eggshell Quality in Ageing Laying Hens: Field Trial Results 🥚 🐔 At the recent #BOKUSymposiumTierernährung , we presented findings from a field trial aimed at addressing the challenges of maintaining #eggshell quality in older laying hens. ➕ Challenge: Extended production periods pose challenges for maintaining good eggshell quality in older laying hens. ➕ Focus on Vitamin D: #VitaminD plays a crucial role in calcium metabolism, but its efficiency decreases with age. ➕ The Solution: We tested the efficacy of supplementing 1,25(OH)2D derived from Solanum glaucophyllum (SG) in a field trial involving 13,000 H&N Brown Nick hens. ➕ Trial Setup: Half of the hens were fed a commercial control diet (KON), while the other half received KON supplemented with SG. ➕ Results: ➕Laying rate increased by 1.4% in the SG-supplemented group. ➕Feed intake per egg reduced. ➕Percentage of second-class eggs decreased from 10.7% to 9.8%. ➕Slower reduction in eggshell breaking strength compared to the control group. ➕Conclusion: The trial demonstrated that SG supplementation maintains eggshell quality and reduces the percentage of second-class eggs in ageing laying hens under field conditions.
