HyperJar is a spending app that allows users to organize and control their spending, offering features to help users waste less money and get rewarded.

HyperJar Ltd is a London-based Fintech. It raised Series A funding of USD$24mm in 2023, one of the largest Series-A rounds for a European business that year.  

Its award-winning B2C digital wallet HyperJar is the spending super-app:  a brilliantly effective, visually engaging account with a prepaid debit card that helps people to Spend Life Well. Behind the simple idea of managing money in digital jam jars is a lot of world-first tech, offering access to all types of instant rewards – including up to 1.5% cashback on all spending. These rewards sit alongside unique tools for organising, sharing and controlling spending. The ability to share money in a single ‘jar’ with other people solves a myriad of devolved spending challenges in a way no other account can: sports teams paying in subs and spending from one source; parents managing expenses with a child-minder; housemates sharing bills; a couple wanting something less formal than a joint bank account. 

The app currently has 600,000 customers and has been the top-rated digital account on the major UK review and app store sites for over 12 months.   

HyperLayer is the company’s B2B venture. It provides unique tech capabilities globally to organisations who want to offer enhanced spending and other services to their customers or employees. These organisations include banks, asset managers, pension funds, merchants, and any enterprise whose clients are also spenders.  

Since public launch into UK app stores in October 2020, HyperJar Ltd has won 14 awards for its proprietary technology, including Money Management Platform of the Year; Personal Finance Tech of the Year; Banking Tech of the Year and Best Future Payments Initiative in 2023.

We've been working with the brilliant Retail Economics to crunch 8 million HyperJar #data points on the spending habits and patterns of today’s 6-17 year olds, alongside feedback from 1821 HyperJar parents about what #kids do with their money. 
 
While the #channel preferences of the combined age group show a balance between bricks and clicks - a third (30.4%) of 6-17 year olds choose to #spend their money equally online and in-store – there are significant differences when we look at age and family #affluence. 
 
Our data show that while two thirds (64%) of 6-8 year olds spend their money almost always or mostly instore, this drops to 39% for 15-17 year olds. There’s a notable shift to online spending as age increases, reflecting greater digital literacy as well as access to devices and social media: 30% of 15-17s shop almost always or mostly online, higher than any of the younger age groups. This backs up another trend identified in the Tomorrow’s Consumer report, that of the decline in use of cash among older children.
 
The data also show that spending channels change according to affluence. Check the carousel to see the difference family #income makes to #shopping behaviour. Online is more popular among the least affluent, no doubt leveraging the potential cost savings found on the giant digital-only shopping platforms such as Temu and SHEIN that are less easily accessed IRL. Meanwhile, more affluent families are likely to spend in categories that rely on a blend of instore and online experiences, including shopping as part of a wider social outing that encompasses hospitality and leisure.

To fully understand tomorrow’s consumers and their #spending habits, we started by looking at how children aged 6 – 17 receive their money.

We surveyed over 1,800 parents to understand the impact of age and affluence on how they give their children money - #cash, digital or a combination of both.  Even from the age of 6, kids receive fewer notes and coins, and this drops even more by the time they hit 15.
