New laws leave consumers unprotected against third parties accessing their genetic data, according to the authors of an analysis published by JAMA Network Open.

“The bottom line is that ultimately more needs to be done in this space to protect consumers, according to the commentary. The enacted legislation does not robustly address the fact that third parties, particularly law enforcement and insurers, can still access and use consumer genetic data.”

Triazole antifungal medications, such as fluconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole, posaconazole, and isavuconazole, are frequently employed in clinical settings for the treatment of invasive fungal infections. The variability in their pharmacokinetics, documented drug interactions, and established connections between drug exposure and response necessitate the need for therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) for most triazole antifungals.

This article, representing the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists (SIDP), presents an in-depth discussion of the pharmacokinetic principles and pharmacodynamic targets associated with commonly used triazole antifungals, highlighting the rationale for incorporating TDM for each of these agents.

For example, the consensus guidelines listed in Table 1 suggest Bayesian MIPD should be used for adjusting voriconazole.
