Our Co-CEO Hazem Ben-Gacem has been in China this week speaking to investors and founders about the opportunities that lie ahead in China for international private capital investors. 
 
Today in Beijing, he spoke at the Caixin Global Summit, where he both gave a keynote speech on public and private market opportunities in China, and joined a panel discussing the evolution of private capital firms established in the Gulf, and the future opportunities that lie ahead for investment in the Gulf and China.
 
Investcorp established its presence in China in 2021, and was pleased to complete its first control deal earlier this year with Shandong Jianuo Electronics. 
 
While in China, Hazem Ben-Gacem also participated in the Annual Conference of Financial Street Forum as a keynote speaker. During his remarks, he highlighted the cooperation opportunities between China and the GCC, reiterating Investcorp’s optimism for the region’s growth potential, and highlighting activities in Asia, including the opening of Investcorp’s new Tokyo office.

A 14-member delegation from Chengdu City visited Investcorp’s head office in Bahrain to explore cross regional investment opportunities. The delegation was led by Vice Mayor Liu Duo. Other senior members included the CEO of the Chengdu Investment Fund, the Chengdu Finance & Banking Regulatory Authority, Chengdu High-Tech Zone, and Bank of Industrials. 

Known as the home of pandas, Chengdu has a population over 21 million people, an annual GDP of over $300 billion (comparable to Finland), and is one of the leading industrial and commerce centers in Central-Western China, hosting major HQs for Airbus, Foxconn, Microsoft, Bosch and many other local Chinese conglomerates. 

The delegation was met by Investcorp CFO, Jan Erik, Head of Investcorp Private Wealth, Yusef Al Yusef, Deputy Head of Emerging Markets Private Equity and Head of Investcorp China, Duncan Zheng, and Head of HR Gulf & Asia, Global Head of DEI, Jordana Semaan.

Investcorp released a whitepaper, “Disruption & Transformation Ahead: The Climate Solutions Opportunity”, which describes the rapidly emerging opportunity to invest in businesses providing products, services and technologies that support and accelerate decarbonization and address the impacts of climate change.
 
The paper is co-authored by James Socas, Head of Investcorp’s Climate Solutions, and Habib Abdur-Rahman, the Firm’s global head of sustainability. It points out the tailwinds and catalysts that Investcorp believes will make the Climate Solutions investment opportunity comparable to and larger than the disruption and wealth creation of the digital revolution.
 
“We believe Climate Solutions presents a unique opportunity for investors to do well and do good,” said James Socas, Managing Director. “Meeting decarbonization goals and addressing climate challenges will require the capital and business building skills of leaders in the private sector.
