Kairos Power Gets NRC Green Light for Second Molten Salt Nuclear Facility

Kairos Power has received approval from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for its Hermes 2 molten salt nuclear facility, a significant milestone for the company. The facility will be located at the East Tennessee Technology Park Heritage Center in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and is expected to operate two units with a combined electrical output of 20 MWe by December 2027. This project is part of Kairos Power's strategy to achieve cost-effective commercialization through rapid iterative development, with the KP-FHR commercial reactor anticipated to be operational in the early 2030s.
