In the past week, ITP Awareness Week was recognized worldwide to bring attention to this rare blood disorder🩸. Joan Young, an Ohio native, was diagnosed with Immune Thrombocytopenia (ITP) in 1992. ITP is an autoimmune disease where the immune system mistakenly destroys platelets, essential for blood clotting, causing excessive bruising and bleeding. Joan’s challenging journey inspired her to establish the Platelet Disorder Support Association - PDSA in 1998. This organization has transformed the perception of ITP and provided support to others facing similar struggles.
