The past June 17th to 19th our science team members Lena Leder and Trygve Bergeland attended the #NordicNutritionConference in the beautiful city of Bergen, Norway, and the experience was a truly inspiring!  Lena and Trygve went home with a bag full of inspiration, new ideas and new collaborations! 
 
Balchem supported the conference as a silver sponsor.

The whole Nordic Nutrition Conference was under the umbrella of “sustainability”: 
🟢 The event was located in the Sustainable Conference Venue Grieghallen in Bergen, Norway. Through The Eco-Lighthouse program, Grieghallen has been certified as a venue that can host Green Conferences. 
🟢 Sustainable and healthy diets in the Nordic countries were featured in several sessions. 
🟢 Debate on “ Should we all eat plant-based for health and environment?” was an absolute highlight with Invited Speakers: Cornelia Weikert from the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment Berlin (Bundesinstitut für Risikobewertung), Germany, Maria Andersson from ETH Zürich, Switzerland and Helle Margrete Meltzer from the Norwegian Institute of Public Health  
The event featured engaging debates and sessions, and Lena had the honor of chairing the session on “Micronutrients in Foods and Associations with Health.” Camilla Friis Bryde Nielsen  from the Center for Klinisk Forskning og Forebyggelse in Denmark presented the rationale, methodology, and study status of the InterVitaminK Trial in an oral presentation.  

The #InterVitaminK study is the largest long-term intervention study to date on the potential beneficial health effects of Vitamin K2. The primary endpoint is the progression of coronary artery calcification after 3 years of intervention versus placebo. All 450 participants have been recruited, and the first participants have attended the 2-year follow-up health examination.  Results of this 3-year intervention study are expected by 2027. 

In another presentation Julie Aaberg Lauridsen also from the Center for Klinisk Forskning og Forebyggelse in Denmark, explained that vitamin K could hold potential for prevention of vascular calcification. She showed data showing strong associations between low vitamin K status and adiposity and impaired kidney function, but not with blood pressure or arterial stiffness.
