The Kirk family have been in optics for over 100 years. It is a great honour for me to follow in the footsteps of my Grandfather, Sidney, and my Dad, Neville. Every so often we discover a new piece of history and our thanks to @NeilHandley, Museum Curator at College of Optometrists , who recently found this beautiful bottle of #KirkBrothers #Lenzene for cleaning your lenses. The labeling is in beautiful condition and the angle tells you that it has been placed by hand on the bottle. I would date this to around 1919/1920.

Three Takeaways That We Need To Discuss! What an amazing response to my recent article on helping the public understand the value of eyewear. https://lnkd.in/e9zYDpzD - you can read it again here Thank you! We have the opportunity to turn this conversation into action so please continue to spread the word and get involved in the conversation. My intention was to provoke the opportunity to allow the consumer to make genuine informed decisions about the frames, lenses and medical services that they pay for but it also threw up some interesting interpretations and reactions. What most people read and absorbed was the fact that so much eyewear is not transparent about its origins but as I travelled this week and discussed the feature with around thirty opticians there was some interesting feedback. 1) "If the frame shows clearly that it is made in China it makes it harder for us to sell it at a premium price." 2) There was an expression of anger at the perceived dishonesty of some larger frame manufacturers for not being straight about where their frames are produced and therefore duping the public. 3) Many people assumed that I was criticising Asian frame production in favour of European production. Each one of these points deserves its own feature but I would love to know what you think or if you had a different takeaway from the article. How do you think we can galvanise the energy and momentum on a subject that is clearly important to our community?
