Kvasir Technologies is a Danish company that has developed a game-changing technology to produce climate-friendly fuel for hard-to-abate industries. We only use agricultural residues in our production, and by doing so, we support farmers by adding value to what is otherwise disposed of, and we avoid any competition between growing food or growing feedstocks for fuel.
Replacing fossil fuel oil with our biofuel and sequestering carbon in the farmland that provided the biomass, has the combined effect of creating a carbon negative product.
And that is how we get to a world without fossil fuel!

Representing one of the startups Søren has supported, Anders delved into Kvasir Technologies' journey of raising capital beyond the usual venture avenues. We’re on a promising path, marked by continuous learning and growth. We’ve successfully secured seed funding and, earlier this year, ventured into venture capital 💚 .

Our next major funding phase is on the horizon as we concentrate on amplifying our sustainable lignin-based biofuel technology. Plans for our debut demo plant in Denmark are underway, emphasizing our dedication to reshaping the biofuel landscape👨🔬 🔬.

🛳 An Inspiring Journey Aboard Laura - The World’s First Methanol-Enabled Container Vessel 🌎 

Yesterday marked a monumental day, not just for A.P. Moller - Maersk, but for all of us striving for a more sustainable future. We at Kvasir Technologies were incredibly honored to be invited by our investor, Maersk, for a guided tour of Laura - the world’s first methanol-enabled container vessel.

 👨✈️ The tour, led by Laura’s 3rd Engineer, covered every nook and cranny of this game-changing vessel, including an eye-opening visit to the engine room.

🎯 During the inauguration ceremony earlier in the day, Maersk CEO Vincent Clerch declared, “This new green vessel is the breakthrough we needed, but we still have a long way to go before we make it all the way to zero.” These words resonated deeply with us at Kvasir Technologies.

 💚 Our mission is to scale our biomass waste-based oil, which can serve as either a supplement or a complete replacement for fossil-based marine fuel. A significant advantage of our biofuel is its compatibility with existing ship engines. 

🛫 Beyond the marine sector, our biofuel also shows promising development for aviation.

🌱 Maersk’s ambitious 2040 net-zero greenhouse gas emissions target is a rallying call for all in the green sector. May their bold actions inspire other industry leaders to follow suit.

Our CEO, co-founder, and inventor of Kvasir's technology Joachim Bachmann Nielsen recently participated in ShippingLabs conference at DTU - Technical University of Denmark along with 200 other participants from the marine sector. Many interesting learnings and results were shared from the important work within decarbonization, autonomy, and digital ship operations, conducted by more than 40 partners in +20 projects. 

Joachim Bachmann Nielsen also presented insights from our recent developments at Kvasir Technologies inluding the completion of our many pilot runs with litre-scale bio-oil production, and the fact that we are now starting ton-scale demonstration activities in Fredericia 🚀  
Joachim revealed also that Kvasir's bio-oil proves to be particularly suitable for maritime use due to its specs 🚢 💡   

Thanks again to ShippingLab for inviting us as presenters - we are proud to be among the thought leaders in the industry as it continues to facilitate, develop, and perform technical projects - solved in collaboration between maritime stakeholders. Here's a heartwarming story about Jonas, a talented sixth grader who recently visited our office with his dad, Anders Holmen Pedersen, our Senior Research Chemist. Jonas helped us construct a remarkable LEGO model container ship, generously gifted by our investor, Maersk Growth. 

Jonas not only impressed us with his LEGO skills, but the ship also symbolizes the challenge the world faces in the transition to a more sustainable future. Currently, over 98% of the 100,000+ global merchant fleet still relies on fossil fuels. As a green fuels developer, we work tirelessly to assist the hardest to abate sectors like marine and shipping - by developing new and cleaner fuels. 

Our unique one-step process efficiently converts lignocellulose (biomass waste) into a high-yield biofuel, directly replacing fossil fuel oil. Our goal in the coming years is to scale this method, supporting the marine sector in achieving their CO2 reduction targets set by The International Maritime Organization (IMO): 40% by 2030 and 50% by 2050. 

Looking ahead, it's fascinating to think that Jonas will be 20 years old in 2030 — a pivotal year for the world’s climate targets and CO2 reduction efforts. Perhaps Jonas will be inspired to follow in the footsteps of his father, and choose a career path that will help invent new green technologies too. The climate crisis calls for bright minds like Jonas and many others 💚

Lignin is the secret ingredient in our biofuels recipe, as Joachim explains in the article: 

“Lignin is a very strange substance as it has no use for most companies today. So there’s not much economy in extracting lignin. That’s why we’ve aimed for whole biomasses that contain lignin. These are agricultural and forestry residues. In agricultural residues, we use straw, among other things. And because it is a redundant resource, there is not much competition for it.”
