H&M Group has signed a virtual power purchase agreement with Lightsource bp for its 125MW Second Division solar project in Texas, U.S. The project will provide local renewable energy, playing an important role in reducing H&M Group’s carbon footprint. Lightsource bp has recently spent some time counting sheep 🧮 🐑 More specifically, we’ve been testing the wool of sheep grazing at our Wellington solar farm in Australia to see how they compare to those grazing in paddocks without solar. 🧶 The results are in, and the comparisons are promising with some parameters suggesting improvements in wool quality among the solar sheep. 📈 More work is required to provide conclusive evidence, but this first indicator is extremely positive. Emilien Simonot , Head of Agrivoltaics EMEA said: “These results are very encouraging and highlight the potential for solar farms to contribute positively to agricultural practices. By integrating sheep farming with solar energy production, we can achieve dual benefits of sustainable energy and enhanced agricultural output." The acquisition will also help bp meet its own growing demand for cost competitive, low carbon power, including for power trading, EV charging, biofuels and green hydrogen. Lightsource bp is celebrating opening its first solar farm in Poland! ☀️🥳 Last month we hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the official opening of our first development in Poland, the 50MW Kotun Solar Farm – and yesterday we continued the celebrations in Warsaw where we were delighted to host the British Ambassador to Poland, Anna Clunes 🤝 Kotuń Solar Farm is the first large-scale project in Poland to implement tracker technology, which allows the solar panels to adjust their angle throughout the day, optimizing sunlight exposure and boosting energy production by 10-25%. Thank you to everyone who came along to our events to help celebrate this milestone event with us. We’re proud to announce that Lightsource bp has joined industry peers, environmental non-profits, and the World Economic Forum (WEF) to launch the Responsible Renewables Infrastructure Coalition. The global alliance is focused on accelerating renewable energy deployment while also creating benefits for communities and ecosystems. 🌏 🌞 The initiative is perfectly timed. Global leaders aim to triple renewable energy capacity by 2030 by speeding up the development of solar and wind farms, plus the required supporting grid infrastructure. Collaboration can help unearth new ways to build nature and people positive projects at the pace required.
