Lunar Outpost’s five upcoming lunar surface missions will make history, with our first rover set to be the first commercial rover on the Moon and the first rover in history to explore the lunar South Pole, while enabling the first sale of space resources in human history alongside many other firsts. Meet Jay Bolden, MA – Strategic Partnerships Manager at Lunar Outpost! 

With a career that spans the aerospace and defense sectors, Jay brings a wealth of experience and a deep passion for space exploration to our team. After serving in the US Air Force for 8 years, Jay transitioned to NASA, where he collaborated with Astronauts, engineers, scientists, and media personalities. 

At Lunar Outpost, Jay is charged with leading our strategic partnerships and serving as a liaison with our NASA counterparts. His role as a translator between Lunar Outpost and NASA ensures that our projects advance smoothly from the drawing board to the launch pad, ultimately reaching the lunar surface. With his unique perspective as a former NASA employee, Jay helps our team anticipate challenges and navigate the complexities of space exploration. 

Jay shares, "Space is hard, and I internalize that we’re on the vanguard of making traversing the lunar surface routine. I think that is a really cool mission." His enthusiasm for our mission is matched by his admiration for the energy and focus of the Lunar Outpost team.

Lunar Outpost is proud to announce the formation of the Lunar Dawn Science Council, working with Arizona State University School of Earth and Space Exploration as the lead research organization. 

In April 2024, the Lunar Dawn Team, led by Lunar Outpost, was awarded a NASA Lunar Terrain Vehicle Services contract, and we’re driving innovation by assembling a top-tier Science Council to ensure the LTV delivers maximum scientific value. 

This team of experts from academia and industry will guide the mission to elevate the quality of lunar science throughout the LTV’s decade-long operation on the Moon. “It will take the best and brightest minds to create not only the first, but most scientifically viable off-road vehicle for living and working on the Moon's surface. ASU’s dedication to unlocking new scientific frontiers and extensive global reach make them a natural leader of the Science Council,” said AJ Gemer, CTO and co-founder of Lunar Outpost. “Drawing on the expertise of these individuals will ensure the greatest scientific and exploration potential as we develop our LTV with unparalleled technical capabilities.”

Today, Lunar Outpost named Castrol the lead Mission Control Center collaborator for our Lunar Voyage 1 mission slated for late 2024! 

The Mission Control Center will be the nexus of planning, decision-making, and control during Lunar Outpost’s Lunar Voyage 1. Mission Control Center operators will issue commands and monitor autonomous functions to guide the MAPP rover through its journey across a challenging environment with low sun angles, pitch-black shadows, and hazardous craters. The Mission Control Center will also play a critical role in monitoring and operating diverse commercial customer payloads onboard the rover.

Australia now makes lunar rovers. This achievement is made possible through the hard work of the ELO2 Consortium, co-led by Lunar Outpost Oceania and EPE, and the opportunity provided by the Australian Space Agency's Trailblazer Program. We celebrated the consortium’s accomplishments, including the design and development of Australian Made and certified lunar rover prototypes, at our Shadows on the Moon showcase.  

In front of an audience of industry professionals, government officials, and program supporters, a range of speakers, including many consortium members who contributed to the project, highlighted the new technologies and the importance of initiatives like this for Australia.

Lunar Outpost Oceania and the rest of the ELO2 Consortium have successfully completed the third and final milestone of Stage 1 for the Australian Space Agency’s Trailblazer Program: the Preliminary Design Review (PDR). This critical milestone was achieved through a comprehensive presentation to the review board, consisting of industry experts and representatives from the Australian Space Agency and NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration.⁠ ⁠

Throughout Stage 1, the team has been dedicated to innovation and risk mitigation, creating four prototypes to rigorously test ideas and technologies. These prototypes have allowed the design to be refined, ensuring a more informed and lower-risk solution. ⁠

Completing the PDR marks another significant step towards the Aussies' first lunar mission, which aims to send a rover to the Moon to autonomously collect and analyze regolith samples. This mission is critical for space resource utilization and will provide valuable insights for future space resource development and missions.⁠ ⁠
