When creating seasonal blends like Winter Solstice, we aim to capture and celebrate the joy of that particular season. The blend should highlight the strength of the components, as well as present a totally new tasting experience. This year, our team chose to blend El Porvenir from El Salvador, and Gatomboya from Kenya to create the rich, full bodied blend we love to warm up with in the colder months. Enjoy notes of cranberry jam, sweet sugar plum and cinnamon in this year's Winter Solstice, available online now and in cafes this weekend!

The Rodriguez family is taking over our cafe menus this weekend! At Grand Rapids and Detroit Madcap Cafes from 11/15 to 11/17, experience three coffees from Madcap's longest producer relationship. In Apaneca, Ahuachapan, El Salvador, Gloria Rodriguez is the matriarch of the Rodriguez family farm, with three generations of family working with her. Since our partnership began in 2008, we've had the privilege of witnessing the farm transition vintage-to-vintage, continually delighted with what each season brings. El Porvenir, Pacamara La Gloria, and Elefante washed will be available to enjoy and take home all weekend long. Try the exclusive flight of all three for a side by side tasting experience!

El Porvenir, which translates to “The Future” or “Things to Come”, fittingly was the very first coffee we purchased when we began roasting in 2008, and has returned to the menu every year since. Intention and care are woven into every step of the process, from picking and separating the Red Bourbon variety in this year’s El Porvenir to washing and drying the cherries on concrete patios. The Rodriguez family’s consistent dedication to their coffees shines through in the final cup, with notes of mouthwatering blood orange, honey, and juicy pineapple. Based on how quickly this vibrant coffee moved last year, this coffee will be available via preorders online this year. This lot is dried on raised beds for around 25 days, covered overnight, with constant raking during the day to ensure even and consistent drying. Elefante Natural has a rich, syrupy body, balanced sweetness and acidity, with notes of bright orange marmalade, dried fig, and cranberry. Returning for its 14th season on our menu, Luis Reinoso out of beautiful Tolima, Colombia, is hitting cafes this weekend, and available now at Madcapcoffee.com . Luis Reinoso and his wife Yenni operate on a small, secluded eleven-hectare farm on the outskirts of Herrera, Tolima. Though this coffee bears his name, Luis is the first to emphasize that it’s an equal partnership between Yenni and himself. In recent years, their daughter Mirtly has also been helping the family process the coffee. In this balanced cup, expect notes of hibiscus, pomegranate, and lime zest.
