Sourcing Bergamot in Calabria, Italy 🍋 Determined to source the finest bergamot, MANE found the right supplier in southern Italy. Our expertise lies in exploring and identifying remarkable places to source our raw materials. The distinctive Calabrian terroir yields a one-of-a-kind fruit with vibrant citrus and floral notes that offer distinctive aromatic nuances. Almost more important than where, however, is who: the farmers dedicated to growing the finest produce in the best possible conditions. They are really what make our products so unique. And as a family company, we are keen to help keep traditions alive wherever possible. Our bergamot grower is the Cilione family, based in the picturesque heart of Italy's Calabria region. The family has owned its own fields for seven generations and has been growing and producing bergamot essential oil for over a decade. The family is deeply committed to product traceability, environmental stewardship and economic sustainability, and MANE is extremely proud of its strong and enduring partnership with the Ciliones. As we reach the end of the MANE Group’s first global Sustainability Month filled with exciting events and initiatives, it’s time to reflect on what we have accomplished together 🌍 Key highlights included films screenings and round-table discussions on fighting extreme poverty; a talk by a hydrologist on the sustainable management of water, a precious resource; mentorship programmes for high school students; commemoration events at UN Headquarters; donating sustainably grown food to food deserts; and planting trees in urban environments. Our different partnerships and initiatives all had one common goal: to help build a fairer, more sustainable society and workplace. Turning what was Sustainability Week into a month-long event required additional logistics and organisation. The initiative provided invaluable opportunities for team-building and raising awareness of the importance of our CSR strategy. Inspiring the next generation of fragrance talents! Promoting diversity, inclusion, equity, and accessibility to our industry for young people from all backgrounds requires intentionality and committed partners. In partnership with The Fragrance Foundation and as part of its programme “Scents of Success”, MANE hosted a panel discussion at The City College of New York (CCNY) to talk to students about the career opportunities the fragrance industry has to offer. “Scents of Success” programme has been designed to inform and educate students about the various roles and career pathways in the fragrance industry through panel discussions and mentoring sessions on college campuses, to attract and increase diversity in the industry. Attendees had the opportunity to discuss with MANE experts: Alyssa Berteletti, Associate Marketing Manager, Amy Caljean , Senior Fragrance Development Manager, Roxane Durand , ESG Project Director North America, Heather Larsen , Laboratory Technologist, Shika Mendez , Project Engineer and Kaleigh Prokop , Perfumer. Our team shared valuable advice on educational pathways, essential skills, industry trends, as well as the importance of creativity, soft skills, networking, and mentoring. This panel followed MANE's participation in the Youth Inclusion International Forum, organised by our partner Life Project 4 Youth (LP4Y) , during which one of our interns, Francina Saint-Hilaire, recruited through “Scents of Success” programme and CCNY, testified to her successful entry into the world of Fragrances. MANE participated in the Society of Flavor Chemists (SFC) 2024 Symposium, a prestigious multi-day event dedicated to the art and science of flavour creation and related topics. Hosted by the SFC every five years, this symposium is a significant event in our industry, bringing together flavour experts. Three of our experts joined the event and presented conferences: - Chris Tucker , Director of Snack Application & Seasoning Development at MANE, partnered on an insightful presentation discussing the basics of seasoning creation & application. His expertise highlighted the foundational techniques essential for seasoning flavour development and applications. - Kevin Heitfeld , PhD, Director of Innovation & Applied Sciences at MANE, captivated the audience with his discussion on innovation in flavour encapsulation. His talk shed light on cutting-edge methods that are transforming how flavours area preserved and delivered. - Amy McDonald , President of the North American Flavour Division at MANE, was the keynote speaker who concluded the symposium with her inspiring presentation untitled: Beyond the taste buds: how to embrace a growth mindset in flavour development. Corsican citron is a citrus fruit that celebrates imperfection. The French name, cédrat, is derived from the citrusy cedar-like aroma emanating from its peel. Despite its rugged exterior, the Corsican citron is revered for its remarkably delicate flavour. In our quest to enrich our palette of offerings with exclusive extracts, we sustainably source this precious citrus fruit from Corsica. Today, MANE is the only fragrance house to use the Corsican variety, whose citrus profile features an exquisite subtle sweetness. The citrons are hand-harvested in early autumn and then shipped to the South of France. There, they are prepared in a special centre, where people with disabilities can work in a specific environment that caters to their social and medical needs. Finally, the citrons’ essence is extracted in our workshops. Due to the citron’s thick skin, extracting the essence is no easy task.
