Maniv was among the first institutional investors to articulate an early-stage investment strategy focused on the intersection between #mobility, #transportation and #energy.

As investors in Fund 1 we’ve watched the team go from strength to strength.  Today we’re pleased to announce our continued support as returning LPs in Maniv's third fund.

The $140 million vehicle will be deployed to accelerate the #decarbonisation and #digitisation of global transportation - a mission that’s attracted an impressive consortium of institutional and corporate backers.

Joining us as LPs are Woven Capital, Shell Ventures, Valeo, Arval BNP Paribas Group, ITT Inc., WEX, Enterprise Mobility, and Ferrovial.

Fifteen years ago today, Keith Bradsher published this piece, featured in the upper-right corner of the printed edition of the New York Times. 

A day earlier I had shared breakfast with then Wall Street Journal Washington Bureau Chief Neil King. Based on my work with the EV network company Better Place at that time, I expressed my conviction to him that the new Obama administration needed to help the American auto industry transition toward EVs, and that the actions being implemented in the wake of the great financial crisis, as well as to save General Motors, presented the perfect opportunity to do so. If they didn't, I feared that China would have the chance to lead the global EV revolution and LEAPFROG the Western auto industry. 

Spoiler alert: They didn't. 

I wish I could say that I was overly alarmist. But all evidence is that things are playing out exactly as the Chinese hoped when they took this step in 2009. What I could never have imagined at that time, was I would be living in Israel, and getting a front-row seat to the dawn of the era of Chinese EV dominance, which plays out daily on the streets of my neighborhood, and on Israel's busiest highway, just behind me as I type. 

Watch this space. China's dominance in batteries and automotive is already staggering, and is continuing to grow. And how the world responds will say a lot about how the 21st century plays out.   (Link in first comment.)

This week officially marks 1 full year of #MobilityMonday 📅 📰 

What originally started as a way to keep myself honest with staying attuned to industry newsletters and trends turned into a forum to share these learnings and insights with a much broader community.

More than 161K impressions and nearly 1.5K engagements later, #MobilityMonday has become a staple of my own week, but also for friends, coworkers, industry partners, acquaintances, and complete strangers from around the world. 

The cleaner, safer, cheaper, and more efficient global movement of people and goods affects all of us. Mobility is as close to a ubiquitous industry as it gets. The real, tangible pace of change in the broader transportation value chain — sometimes fast and sometimes slow, sometimes fad and sometimes standard — influences the human condition at a fundamental level. 

As consumers of this value chain, we have a duty to influence it for the better in whatever way we can. And at Maniv, we have the added privilege of influencing it by investing in change-makers from around the world that are building innovative business models and deep technologies of the new mobility paradigm.
