The Meloy Fund is an investment fund focused on sustainable community fisheries in Indonesia and the Philippines. The fund aims to invest private capital in small-scale fisheries to yield returns for people, nature, and investors.

The Meloy Fund for Sustainable Community Fisheries is a pioneer impact investment fund that incentivizes the development and adoption of sustainable fisheries by making debt and equity investments in fishing-related enterprises that support the recovery of coastal fisheries in Indonesia and the Philippines. 

In addition to providing a risk adjusted financial return, the Fund is projected to have a positive impact on the lives of 100,000 fishers and their household members, and place 1.2 million hectares of coastal habitats (including coral reefs, seagrass, and mangroves) under improved management. The Fund is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Rare, a global conservation organization that has empowered local communities in over 50 countries to shift from being resource users to environmental stewards.

Earlier today, sustainable farming and supply chain traceability startup Koltiva announced a seven-figure series A financing round led by Indonesia's leading early-stage venture capital firm AC Ventures, with participation from Silverstrand Capital, Planet Rise, Development Finance Asia, and Blue7, along with existing investor The Meloy Fund.

Koltiva will use the fresh capital to expand its software, service, and climate offerings for multinational corporations to achieve supply chain traceability from seed to table. 

On the agritech side, it offers producer profiling and plot mapping, seed-to-table traceability, as well as training and coaching with its field experts and agronomist team. On the climate front, Koltiva has been helping farmers with climate change adaptation, by advising them on climate-resilient inputs and best practices. It also offers clients climate-smart farm support, land use mapping, and risk alerts.

By providing comprehensive seed-to-table traceability, we empower corporations to wisely navigate the dynamic landscape of evolving regulations and sustainable practice compliance while enhancing smallholder producers’ livelihoods. The Meloy Fund, the impact investment fund Rare launched in 2017, is out with its latest impact report. While we haven’t crossed the finish line, the road ahead is looking good. But any and all success has come after a harrowing, frustrating, complicated, costly and sometimes even combative first seven years.
