🌞 Merz Summer Celebration at FIZ Frankfurt! 🎉

Our recent "Sommerfest" at FIZ Frankfurt Biotechnology Innovation Center was a fantastic celebration, bringing together 500 (!) employees from across the Merz businesses for an evening of fun and games.

After a warm welcome from Andreas Meyer, representative of the Shareholder Family, and Hans Jörg Bergler, Managing Director, the focus turned to the celebration's theme of sport and employee well-being. Lots was on offer with archery, table-tennis, the Euros game, Foosball and the very competitive light-up reaction-timing wall!

What's more, to ensure that people stay active even after the summer festival, there were sports bags with yo-yos, frisbees, jump ropes and shower gels from Merz Lifecare for everyone to take home.

Even the drizzle couldn't dampen our spirits as we gathered around the barbecue, toasting to the hard work and dedication of everyone at Merz.

On a cloudy day like today, we like to look back at earlier in the summer where Merz runners showcased incredible team spirit at the 30th JP Morgan Corporate Challenge in Frankfurt. This year, 190 Merz employees united to conquer the 5.6 km course through the city center, a significant increase from last year’s 125 participants.

But the event was more than just a run; it was a celebration of camaraderie and joy. The energy continued well into the night with a gathering in the courtyard of our main building, complete with DJ and barbeque!

It was a fantastic demonstration of why enthusiasm and team spirit are what make Merz a great place to be. The photos speak for themselves!

We had a blast hosting a range of exciting activities, from diving into the fascinating world of DNA to exploring the colourful realm of cosmetics. Our young participants even got hands-on with coding robots and learned the essentials of firefighting! 🧬💄🤖🔥

Merz’s Head of Strategic Sourcing, Martina Boxberger participated in a dynamic panel discussion at last week’s 2024 Handelsblatt Procurement Summit in Düsseldorf, where Sourcing expertise met under one roof. 

What emerged from the summit was a clear consensus: the future of procurement hinges on a delicate balance of sustainability, resilience, and efficiency.

Decarbonization was a central theme, with discussions on how collaborative efforts, such as the #LkSG and #CSDDD initiatives, could pave the way for decarbonizing supply chains and mitigating climate change. Yet, the debate lingered on whether these frameworks act as enablers or preventers of progress.

Martina Boxberger offered insights in a panel regarding “The different worlds of sustainability - Are European market players at risk of being pushed out?” where she and fellow panelists examined the pros and cons of differing sustainability standards and the efficacy of ESG measures.

Friday marked a momentous occasion as our outstanding ICP participants unveiled their innovative Sustainability rules for Merz. The project culminated in the peaceful setting of the Merzhof, the perfect "green" backdrop to an inspiring day for all involved. 

At Merz, our International Collaboration Project is more than an initiative; it's an opportunity for participants to amplify their leadership acumen, broaden their perspectives, and explore beyond their career specializations.

Sustainability is vital to us here at Merz, and having strong ambassadors within the company will drive our persistence to reaching our ESG goals. To signify our commitment, we planted an apple tree, a living testament to the dedication and accomplishments of our participants.

The magic of the number 10 permeated the entire project — a 10-month program, 10 passionate participants, and 10 impactful rules. We applaud their efforts with a perfect 10 out of 10!
