Henley Business Angels (HBA), which operates from Henley Business School at the University of Reading, is a network of experienced business leaders, successful entrepreneurs, and investors. The network’s aim is to facilitate opportunities for members to invest in and mentor (S)EIS registered early-stage businesses launched by entrepreneurs who graduated from or are connected with the Henley Business School and the University of Reading.

Henley Business Angels members have re-invested in KYMIRA, an innovative smart garment company developing specialist infrared technology to aid recovery in athletes 👏

KYMIRA’s funding round consisted of private investment and a £500k grant as part of Henley Business Angels’ Investor Partnership with Innovate UK 🤝

For most athletes, the traditional, technology-centred innovations to aid their recovery can’t be easily incorporated into their lives; disrupting routines, confining usage to fixed locations and requirement of substantial upfront investments are just a handful of reasons solutions like ice baths, cryo-chambers and compression garments are ineffectual ❌

KYMIRA offers an effective, alternative solution, revolutionising recovery by embedding its bio-responsive technology into every fibre of its apparel - it converts UV, visible light and body heat into targeted infrared wavelengths. The infrared penetrates 4cm into athlete’s muscles, unlocking a myriad of performance-enhancing benefits, and empowering athletes around the clock 💪

With a range of clients from American Football Teams in the US to professional swimmers in the UK, KYMIRA is a trusted source for performance improvement for professional athletes across sports 🏊 

Some of the funding from this round has been allocated to help KYMIRA further expand into the US market and launch a new range of bio-tracking devices. KYMIRA’s progress in expanding within the US is continuing on an upward trajectory, and shortly after pitching to Henley Business Angels, KYMIRA was selected as one of 10 in the fourth cohort of the Comcast SportsTech Accelerator which kicked off in March this year 🇺🇸


Timothy Brownstone, Founder and CEO of KYMIRA, welcomed the investment, and was delighted that HBA's “continued support will ensure that the impact of our newest technologies will not just be limited to sportsmen and women, but will benefit the broader population through medical applications of our technology as well”

ape2o announced their partnership with Great Western Railway (GWR) last week and shared that they had been awarded a contract to install their ‘Big Ape’ ultra-filtered water refill machines across GWR’s network 👏

Oxford station is the first station on GWR’s network to launch, with additional Big Apes planned to be installed at more stations over the next 2-3 years 🚉

10% of all sales will be donated to ocean, marine life and freshwater conservation projects 🐟
