We’re a Stockholm based tech startup with the vision of taking charity to the next level through digital innovation, empowering everyone to contribute to a more sustainable future. By creating a new type of platform for impact Milkywire connects people and companies who want to change the world directly to the best grassroots non-profits around the world doing real work in the field.

How it works
By downloading the Milkywire app on the App Store or the Google Play Store, users can easily find, fund and follow so called impacters - screened grassroots NGOs from around the world working to fight extinction, save oceans, clean the planet, protect and restore forests and more. Milkywire provides a new experience by allowing private and corporate users to support local projects directly and see proof of impact by following their progress through weekly video updates directly on the app.

Do you know of a climate project that should get funding?
Today Milkywire opens our Climate Transformation Fund's 2024 Call for Proposals.

We focus on three pillars: Durable Carbon Removal, Nature Restoration & Protection, and Emission reductions. We’re looking for projects that have the potential to scale, catalyze wider change and create lasting impact. We give climate grants and make prepurchases of carbon removal.

We are especially interested in getting proposals that complement what we previously supported. Some of the organisations supported in the past include Heirloom, Clean Air Task Force, Justdiggit, Octavia Carbon, KKI WARSI, New Energy Nexus, Industrious Labs, MASH Makes (and 22 others).

Last year we allocated over 5 million USD to the projects selected. The charitable fund is supported by a long list of donors including Klarna, Spotify, ING, Avanza Bank, Mentimeter, BioGaia AB, Planet A Ventures, PANGAIA, Northzone, Steamery, Unbound Summits and more.

At COP 28 there was a lot of talk about carbon markets and how to increase their integrity. Markets do have a role to play, but being restricted to only using carbon credits to finance climate action would be like only being able to invest in corporate bonds — capped upside, while still running the risk of failure.

🐝 Exciting News from the Trillion Bees Coalition at COP28! 🌍

We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Trillion Bees Coalition led by PANGAIA, a groundbreaking global initiative unveiled at COP28 in Dubai. The mission? To champion biodiversity and safeguard our planet’s vital pollinators.

Initiated by PANGAIA and developed alongside Milkywire, this science-led coalition brings together individuals, businesses, and organizations dedicated to the Bee The Change campaign. The goal is to foster a world where pollinators can flourish, thereby securing healthy ecosystems and the well-being of all.

Even before its official launch, Trillion Bees has garnered immense support from a diverse group of businesses and organizations. The aim over the next 7 years is to engage over 2 billion people and raise $1 billion for the Bee The Change Fund. These funds will empower field projects, grassroots organizations, and transformative initiatives for nature restoration.

Under the expert guidance of Professor Simon Potts and our scientific advisory board, we’re employing advanced technologies like geospatial AI and multi-omics solutions to analyze environmental impacts and enhance pollinator wellbeing.

Silicate, supported in the Milkywire Climate Transformation Fund is bringing their solution out of Ireland to the US, trialing spreading returned concrete on fields to capture carbon. 

The article is a great deep dive into enhanced rock weathering. We still have a lot to learn about how rock weathering can be measured, and Silicate is a leader in the research being done, keeping an honest and humble approach to all the challenges still ahead of us.
