Extracellular vesicles (EVs) play an important role in the intercellular communication and are involved in physiological and pathological functions. They are attracting significant clinical interest for drug delivery, disease diagnosis and therapeutic intervention. EVs properties make their use promising for applications such as tissue regeneration and nano carriers able to cross biological barriers. To position EVs as new biotherapeutics, some of the current challenges are increasing production yields and improving quantification and characterization.
