PRESS RELEASE NNPC Ltd, Partners Boost Cancer Fight with Mammography Centre In furtherance of its war against cancer, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.), along with its partners - TotalEnergies Upstream Nigeria Limited, SAPETRO, CNOOC, and PRIME 130 - has inaugurated a cutting-edge mammography centre at the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Lafia, Nasarawa State. The centre, which is the second – one Mammography Centre had earlier been commissioned at Garkida General Hospital, Gombi Local Government Area, Adamawa – along with the series of free cancer screening programmes by the NNPC Foundation, is part of a strategic push by NNPC Ltd. to improve access to early cancer detection and treatment to tackle the high mortality rate in Nigeria. Speaking at the commissioning of the facility, the Chief Upstream Investment Officer of NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS), Mr. Bala Wunti who was represented by the Head Business Services, Mr. Sani Kabo, said the mammography centre was a symbol of NNPC Ltd.’s unwavering commitment to enhancing the quality of healthcare in Nigeria. Wunti stressed that the facility was in total alignment with the NNPC Ltd.’s GCEO, Mr. Mele Kyari 's vision of improved medical system in Nigeria, adding: "It is our hope that under the stewardship of the State government, this facility will become a beacon of comfort and a critical resource for timely diagnosis and treatment of cancer." On his part, the Managing Director/Chief Executive and Country Chair of TotalEnergies Upstream Nigeria Limited (TUPNI), Mr. Matthieu Bouyer , who was represented by the Acting General Manager, Corporate Social Responsibility, Mrs. Tonye OSIFO , said TotalEnergies was committed to addressing healthcare challenges through strategic partnerships. "This mammography centre is among 84 infrastructural projects TotalEnergies has delivered since 2016. It signifies our active role in the global fight against cancer and reflects our alignment with the #WorkingWithCancer initiative, which supports recovery and retention for individuals affected by cancer," Bouyer stated. The mammography centre is equipped with advanced features like Senographe Pristina 3D mammography system, digital breast tomosynthesis, stereotactic biopsy capabilities, and can undertake over 120 examinations daily, significantly boosting the diagnostic capacity in Nasarawa State and the North Central region. The facility also has treatment rooms, a dedicated office for radiologists, and a 20-person capacity waiting area that provides a comfortable and efficient environment for both patients and staff. That we have carried out spot checks at all our outlets and found this claim to be false. The product was not, and could not have been bought from any NNPC Retail outlet as the company does not dispense petroleum products into bottles or jerrycans as displayed in the video. 2. That NNPC Retail Ltd. does not deal in adulterated products as it adheres to rigorous standards and quality control measures at every stage in its operations to ensure that only high-quality, safe, and reliable petroleum products are available at its stations nationwide. 3. That members of the public should discountenance the spurious claims made in the video and be wary of selfish and unpatriotic elements pushing such narrative as they do not mean well for the country. 4. PRESS RELEASE Decarbonisation: NNPC Advocates More Collaboration, Transparency Among Parties The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd. has called for more collaboration and transparency among parties in the global energy industry’s quest to phase out carbon emissions across the oil and gas value-chain and achieve net-zero by 2050. Group CEO of NNPC Ltd., Mele Kyari made this call while speaking at a Strategic Panel Session titled “Decarbonising Operations across Upstream, Midstream and Downstream” at the on-going Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference ( #ADIPEC2024 ) in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on Tuesday. Kyari said beyond collaboration, transparency and openness are also important and not by vilifying those lagging behind, but by ensuring that the gaps between all parties are bridged. Kyari, who was represented by NNPC Ltd.’s Executive Director, Upstream, Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan said Africa is currently faced with the challenge of tackling the twin problem of decarbonisation and energy poverty and to deal with such challenge, Nigeria made two fundamental policy shifts to support the nation’s decarbonization process. “One is declaring the decade of gas as transition fuel from a predominantly diesel and fuel economy to a gas-driven economy, while the second is the removal of fuel subsidy. NNPC Ltd. has relied on these two policies to drive the nation’s decarbonisation agenda,” Kyari said. He added that as a signatory to the Oil & Gas Decarbonisation Charter (OGDC), Nigeria is focused on achieving gas flare-out by 2030 through the utilisation of gas for automotive and power generation. Kyari, who said Nigeria sits on huge gas reserves of up to 209 trillion cubic feet (tcf), explained that access to capital for funding gas projects has been a challenge as the balance sheet which could be easily used for raising money to fund gas projects, comes mostly from the International Oil Companies (IOCs), which is also largely focused on export gas. “It is important to know that if we must solve this existential problem, then there should be a provision for the global south (less energy endowed countries) to access capital to enable them address their problems,” he observed. Kyari decried how all parties are placed in the same bracket in the quest to decarbonise, saying that because the pace of progress is based on current state of the countries, the OGDC must continue to provide a level playing field for all. “It is in understanding the differences that exist among us, even though we are trying to solve the same problem,” he added. Describing the level of collaboration in the quest to decarbonise as “phenomenal,” Kyari cited the example of TotalEnergies, which took the challenge to partner with NNPC Ltd. through its methane measurement and detection technology.
