Wind is an abundant and inexhaustible resource, which makes it a clear energy choice in helping the maritime industry reach its 2050 decarbonization target.

In fact, the International Windship Association has urged the International Maritime Organization to include wind propulsion as a zero-emission energy source in its upcoming global fuel standards formula. 

Through recent advancements, such as our Norsepower E-Cal method validated by DNV, accurate wind propulsion efficiency calculations can help the industry accurately measure why wind is for the win. This helps ensure compliance with the latest IMO regulations, including EEDI and EEXI, and reduces the business risk for shipyards, ship owners and operators.

One more industry first! 🎉

We are proud to announce that two Norsepower Rotor Sails™️ have been successfully installed on a capesize bulk carrier for Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) and Vale, representing a world first for a retrofit on this vessel type. 

Camellia Dream, which recently marked its first call at Ponta de Madeira, Brazil, is expected to achieve about 6-10% fuel and GHG emissions reductions when also combined with voyage optimization technology.

With the wind in our sails, we are accelerating towards reaching zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

In an industry full of claims about emissions and fuel savings, we’re proud to take a data-first approach to our discussions. 

Working with NAPA and Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd., we used digital twin technology and sophisticated sea-state modelling to demonstrate emissions reductions of 28% sailing between New York and Amsterdam. Our system created 16% of these savings and voyage optimization provided the rest. 

These findings are just the start of the story. Through active collaboration with industry partners, from classification societies to data service providers, we can continue to prove the tangible savings of using the Norsepower Rotor Sail™️. 

This proves that when we say savings are there for the taking, we mean it!

We’re making waves in Japan.

After a successful event at the Sea Japan Exhibition earlier in the year, our Chief Customer Operations Officer, Jukka Kuuskoski, had the opportunity to talk about all things Norsepower with Japan Maritime Daily. 

In his interview, Jukka shared his insights about how Norsepower is bringing sails back to shipping. We've been able to save 20,100 plus tonnes of CO2 from being emitted since 2014 by harnessing the wind with our Norsepower Rotor SailTM (NPRSTM). With shorter payback period, minimal down time for installation and innovative leasing initiatives on offer, embracing the NPRSTM is a no-brainer.
